I had a very nice Thanksgiving Day.  Our family friend came over about 0915 and we played Skip Bo for a couple hours and then ate at 1230.  We didn't play any games this afternoon, but just sat around and visited and enjoyed each other's company.  Everyone has gone home for the evening and now I'm just enjoying my evening.  I will put up a little Christmas Tree in my room this evening and then put Grandma's up tomorrow.

What are you going to do for the rest of the day?  Watch football?

I am thinking about watching a triple header of college basketball on ESPN 2.  I've got games from now until midnight.  As far as non-sports, I may put up the Christmas Tree in my room.  It's only a small three foot tree, but it will make up for the tree I was not able to put up in October due to moving back to the OKC area.

I posted my menu a few pages ago, but I had turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, gravy, lime jello salad, stove top stuffing, iced tea, pumpkin pie, and vanilla ice cream.

bushie can you confirm that youve gained about 25 pounds in 2 years?

Pretty close, but we're not going to talk about that tonight.  This is a holiday.

Dallas needs Seattle to win tonight to stay in the 5th seed since Dallas beat Seattle earlier in the season.  If San Fran wins, they'll move into the playoff picture by virtue of their week 1 win against Dallas.  I still expect a 10-6 record to finish up the season.  We're 8-4 now, and we have to go to pitiful Chicago next Thursday, which I expect to come out with a win, before we come to the Linc in Week 15.  If we can't beat Philly in Dallas, I don't expect us to win in Philly.  We then have our home finale against Indianapolis, so for conservative sake, I call that a loss.  We should win that one, but you never know.  Then, we get to go to Washington who can't decide who they want under center.  I expect us to at least make it into the playoffs.  Whether we win a game is another story.  If we can make it in as a 5 seed, we will get to play the NFC South winner, a division that nobody wants to win.  This is a loss tonight, but it's definitely not the end of the Cowboy season.

IceSpear, I have thought about the procedure, but I guess I'm too afraid of going under the knife.

It would be well worth it in the long run. Like Flo said, you'd probably get anaesthetized anyway.

True.  It is definitely something I will consider, but I still want to try more natural means first.  I haven't given up on it, yet.  I will get back to it again tomorrow and try to watch what I eat and watch how much I eat.  I'm not going to promise what I'm going to do, but I am going to try to urge Grandma and Mom to sit down and plan out a menu that has appropriate portions of meat and vegetables.

HD, to answer your question, death does not scare me.  I know where I am going once I leave this earth.  The grass really will be greener on the other side!  That said, I do not want to die.  The Apostle Paul in Romans says to live is Christ, but to die is gain.  He said in that letter that he knows he still has work to do on earth and loves hanging around his buddies, but he also knows when he dies, he will get the last laugh.  That's an extreme paraphrase, but it's the jist of his comments there.  I know when I die, I will get the last laugh. I truly believe that I'm in good shape either way.

Let me reiterate, guys, I am not scared of death, nor should I be.  Nathan, I believe one can know definitively about their own salvation.  God doesn't want us to live in fear and wonder all our lives IF we will go to heaven or not.  He gives us the ability and the grace to know that we know that we know where we will spend eternity.  God is not the author of fear.  He is the author of peace.  The hymn says "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine.  O what a foretaste of glory divine.  Heir of salvation, purchase of God.  Born of His spirit, washed in His blood.  This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.  This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long."  That hymn tells it like it is.  That doesn't sound like fear and wonder to me, that sounds like complete assurance and absolute peace.

Joe, the post office application is gathering dust in my Tulsa apartment.  It didn't even make the trip down to OKC.

Today, my main project is to clean out my car.  It's supposed to be 72 degrees today, so I can't use the cold as an excuse.  It's windy, but its always windy in Oklahoma.  I will watch some football today, but it won't be my only thing to do today.  I may go bowling with a good friend of mine this evening, depending on how he feels.  I want to get that 9 taste out of my mouth!

I just weighed this morning - two days after Thanksgiving and three days after I last weighed and I came in at 287 1/2.  I haven't gained anything from the feast.  I even ate some healthy turkey in the process.  Last night, though, Mom, Dad, and I went out for Mexican food to On the Border.  I didn't gain anything from that, either, apparently.

And who is this "friend", I didn't know you had any?  Is it someone from your church group?

Its a friend from church.  He's on his way to the bowling alley now.

Bowling scores tonight were much better.  100, 107, and 129.  We nearly finished a fourth game, but time ran out.

What did you eat while there?

I ate a cheeseburger before I bowled, which I quickly worked off by bowling 38 frames.  It was the first substantial meal I have had all day.  I'm hungry now, but I will wait till breakfast.

It takes 90 minutes of bowling, 1 frame after another, to lose 500 calories. You, did not burn it off bowling. Nice attempt though.

This was a pretty small burger to begin with and I bowled 38 frames in 65 minutes.  There was only one other person bowling with me, so the games went rapidly.  I may not have burned it all off, but I know I burned the majority of it off.

You will not be successful in your fitness efforts if you view each positive action as a reason why it's OK to indulge in a negative action.

I have no regrets about having that small cheeseburger before I bowled.  Nor should I.  It gave me the energy I need to bowl as much and as well as I did.  Plus, bowling is a legitimate work out, especially if you're not bowling in a large group.  I maybe had 75-90 seconds between frames tonight.  I probably burned more calories bowling tonight than I would have if I had taken a walk.  The one and only drawback is it is too expensive to bowl every day.  I would if I could, though.

I really need to lose weight.  I'm sure if I lost even 25-50 pounds, my back would feel better.  So, I am going to try to behave myself the rest of the year except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  I know I'll feel better if I can get some of this weight off.

I need to eat more vegetables and I will do so.  Maybe not every single meal, but most meals.  As far as exercise, I need to make the time to do it.

You made those comments more than a week ago.  Since then (even leaving aside Thanksgiving as a "free day" from your diet) have your eating habits changed at all?  Are you eating any vegetables?  And have you done any exercise besides bowling?

I am eating more vegetables.  Mainly more green beans.  I haven't done any other exercising, but bowling is a pretty good exercise program on its own.

No one can dismiss bowling as a meaningless activity.  It is a pretty good work out.

It's better than sitting on your butt watching football. But that being said, you probably wouldn't have gotten that cheeseburger if you were sitting at home watching football so it was a no net gain.

You have a BMI of 45. You have nothing to stand on when it comes to defiantly saying "this is right" and "there is nothing wrong" when it comes to fitness. No one would ever take your advice on this matter and you should follow their lead.

You wanna bet?  Braum's is only 3 miles up the road...

Good morning, gentlemen, I am awake and about to head to church for the First Sunday of Advent 2014.  The season that prepares our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the birth of Salvation incarnate.  Have a good day, gentlemen.

Good Sunday Afternoon.  I am home from a great worship service.  Very insightful.  The message helped to re-confirm my calling to move to Kenya.  I was starting to get down on myself that I wasn't doing what I need to to get there, but then after talking with my best friend at the church, I realize that maybe I am.  I am working right now and Mom and I are very successfully paying off my debt so I can be debt-free when I do go.  I'm still probably 3-4 years away from moving over there, but I'm hoping that sometime in 2018 or 2019 I can move over there for a year or two.  I am not called to go now, but I am called right now to start preparing myself to go over there.  Mom and I just paid off a major bill in October and I am starting to snowball onto another bill.  I am going to sit down with my pastor pretty soon and get his insight into what I need to be doing.

Advent is also a penitential season, but I doubt Bushie or his church will be giving that much thought.

Advent and Christmas are the same seasons.  By celebrating Advent, we are celebrating Christmas and vice-versa.  It's like Lent and Easter, they are one in the same.  You're right, though, Southern Baptists don't generally celebrate either Advent or Lent.  It doesn't make us wrong.

I've never said anything like that.

It has completely disappeared from any conversation and, based on your reports of what you have eaten since making that commitment a week ago, you haven't changed a single thing. Not even a commitment on baby steps (ie: not planning, but follow-through). What else should we think?

People have to realize that since I'm living with someone, there are some changes I cannot make.  I will not be rude and not eat what she gives me.  Hospitality and manners are far more important than losing weight.  That said, I can try to encourage healthy eating.  Grandma usually fixes healthy meals.  Healthy doesn't have to involve stir-fry type dishes.  Meat and vegetables are what she grew up on at the table and is what she passes down to her kids and grandkids.  Roast, ham, and beef and noodle casserole can be healthy.  Mashed potatoes are not outrageously bad.  Green Beans do not have to be fresh.  Canned GB works just as well especially when she doesn't put margarine in them.  Old country, southern cooking is not inherently unhealthy.

Wow, guys, I did not ask to be lambasted while I was gone to church.  You think I'm hopeless.  You all, except for J-Mann, are hopeless for pointing fingers and viciously assassinating my character.  You'd think I'd learn and stop updating.  Let me ask this:  When I cease updating would you please stop assassinating my character and my family's character?  I do not want to hear a single, solitary word more of this vicious, no-good, lying, un-manlike garbage.
