Some sad news:  I found out that one of my junior high teachers passed away recently.   Sad

Even though it is a Sunday evening, things can still happen.  I just got a call about 16:00 today from someone apparently working some OT and who found my resume inviting me to an interview tomorrow at 11:00 am for an Office Assistant.  This makes three interviews tomorrow and one on Tuesday!  Mind you, the third interview tomorrow has two leads attached to it.  So, I now have 5 hot leads to investigate in the next 48 hours!!

Sorry Bushie, your Update is being killed in the ratings, as well as critically, right now by the Inks Scandal mini-series.

To be honest, I debated on whether to even post or not with the Inks-gate raging.  You can tell my decision!

And by the looks of it, once you posted in support of Inks in that thread, the whole situation spiraled downward for him.

Another reason I'm not going to further opine in that thread either way.  I've got my opinions, but I'm afraid if I voice them, I'd become embroiled in that controversy and take us both down.

Your belief that a situation completely independent of your own would somehow change depending on your involvement certainly speaks volumes.

Be that as it may, I know because of Inks' extensive involvement in the Update series, and the oft-heated discussions we have had that it's best for me and him if I stay quiet.

Anyway, onto a different topic.  I am having dinner with my girlfriend's father tomorrow evening.  That can only mean one thing.  I am going to ask her father for his daughter's hand in marriage.  I am plotting my question to her, as well.

I'm only 11 1/2 months from the wedding and I have to have a job before I can ask her Dad and propose to her.  Even a low-paying job will show that I am at least trying.

EDIT: Note that this was said less than a week ago.

With 4 interviews in 48 hours and the dinner being after the first 3, I will at least have the appearance of trying to get a job.  I will not propose to her until I have a job, though, and I will reassure him of that.

Where are you two going for dinner?

It's actually a men's night at the church he attends while in Tulsa.  We're having barbeque for dinner.

Oh my!

I thought you were only gonna do that if you had a job though? Feel like those hot leads are good enough for now?

Ohhhhhhhhhhh do you think papa allison is going to suggest it? Or did Bushie set up this dinner? Are we looking at a 4th of July proposal?

Sounds like Bushie just can't wait!

4th of July is probably a little soon.  I'm hoping the next weekend, if possible.

Just to clarify, one needs not have a job, only giving the impression of looking for one, to ask a father, but one does need a job to ask the woman? Just trying to get a grasp on the social customs of Oklahoma.

Asking the father does not start the road to the wedding.  The proposal does.  Asking the father only gives the green light to asking the girl.  It is preferable to have a job for both events, but the impression of actively trying, I'm hoping, will suffice.  It's more important that I have a job for the proposal so I can pay for any part of the wedding I am asked to.  Financing the wedding is normally the bride's family's responsibility, but I don't want to assume that.  More than that, I need to show my bride-to-be that I will have the ability to take care of her financially as well as emotionally, spiritually, physically, etc.

It will happen on the Fourth! Cheesy Did Bushie seek permission from any of his 3 previous fiancees' fathers?

I did (sorta).  Fiancee's 1 and 3 had no father, so I had to ask the mother.

Bushie, have you ever heard of an Oklahoma father who refused a suitor's request to propose to his daughter?

IF that happens, and that's a very big IF, then I will not propose to her, yet.  I respect her and her father too much.  However, her father and I are good friends ourselves, so I don't see him saying no.

Am I the only one who finds the asking the father for "permission" to marry the daughter in 2014 very disturbing?

This is conservative Christian culture.  Yes, you can still be conservative in 2014.

Do Mama and Papa Bushie know you're asking her Dad?

As a matter of fact, they do.

If my plans for proposal go as planned, my parents will know and see her ring before her parents will.

If Papa Allison said no, would Bushie have to break up with her?

This question is a moot point.  He gave me his blessing.

Hey, folks.  Sorry for the absence, I actually went to bed at 20:30 right after I got home.  I was tired after a long day interviewing.  I'm up for the rest of the month (an entire 17 minutes), then I'll go back to bed.  I have not told my parent's, yet, and a 4th of July proposal will not happen.  I'm hoping for the weekend after (July 12) or maybe July 19.  It's just whenever I can get a job.  I do believe it will be before August 1.  There is really no big rush, yet, as the wedding is still 11 months away.  I could conceivably wait until Labor Day to propose and still be fine, but, of course, I want to do it long before then.

Did her dad tell you to make sure you have a job before you ask or something? I was looking forward to a proposal on the 4th with fireworks and bacon cheeseburgers!

Yes.  He trusts me to get a job first so I can prove I can take care of her.

I have not told my parents his response.  They knew I was going to ask him.

Was "get a job", "lose weight" and "get rid of the creepy mustache" part of his response?

He knows I'm working feverishly to get a job, but yes, that was on the list.  The weight was not, and there is only one person that can tell me to get rid of the mustache, and that is Allison herself.  So far, after 9+ months, she has not told me that, yet.

Wait, Papa Allison gave a list of demands? I didn't know holding the wedding hostage was a possibility. I wrongfully presumed it would be a clean yes or no. What is his complete list of conditions? What happens if/when Bushie fails to complete them? Will Allison be forced to choose between the two men in her life? This season just got a lot more interesting.

It is a clean yes with the only requirement - "get a job".

I presume that, given the father retains ownership over Allison, he will retain rights to her unless otherwise. It seems like Bushie has entered into an option-contract with Papa Bushie, which vests upon his completion of the list of demands, and Papa Allison will keep it open for an undisclosed amount of time.

I just wonder how long Bushie has to complete this list. Further, looking at this from a property viewpoint, I wonder if Papa Allison has the right to end the engagement should Bushie pop the question next week and then fail to complete the list of demands. I assume that Papa Allison has a right of reentry in Allison subject to the conveyance to Bushie since this sounds like he structured it as a fee simple subject to condition subsequent.

Until Bushie reveals the details on this contract, all we can do is speculate.

Again, there are no demands.  The only requirement for proposing to her is that I get a job, first.  No other demands are requirements were made.  Pretty reasonable, I would say, and nothing I wasn't already planning on doing, anyway!

What happens if he gets a job, proposes to Allison and then loses the job shortly after proposing? That's not exactly an unlikely scenario given his history.

That's doubtful to happen.  If it happens, I will get another job as quickly as I can.
