How would Ronald Reagan have done in the 2016 GOP Primary and GE

With the positions of today's Republican voters, I struggle to see how Reagan gets nominated.  We're talking about a governor who signed to legalize abortion before Roe vs. Wade, had a few environmental bills, took up the cause of gun control after leaving office, took an open border stance, and had a life around gays in Hollywood which he didn't object to.  Since then his family has come to support stem cell research and criticize the Iraq War which doesn't speak for him but is an indication.  In the general election, he still does very well, but getting there is his problem.
