Sri Lankan Boat with economic migrants onboard intercepted, and the people immediately taken from their boat to Christmas Island then to the airport and sent back to Sri Lanka.

Christmas Island to Colombo express service.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10898865/Sri-Lankan-asylum-seekers-sent-home-Colombo-Christmas-Island-Australian-Border-Force.html

Albanese with his first test of immigration policy. Australian's are overwhelmingly against illegal boat arrivals, and Labor have not adjusted the policy from the Liberal Party.

Sri Lanka is currently in economic meltdown, so travelling people are paying boat smugglers to take them to Australia. Just like England, US and Australia with stronger currencies compared to third world countries, the monetary difference means small amounts of Australian dollars make a big difference when converted to Sri Lankan dollars and sent back home.

I would personally prefer genuine refugees from Ukraine. Some 15 and 17 yo's orphaned from Mariupol with a genuine need for assistance should be brought here. Australian's don't like economic migrants from Iran and Sri Lanka jumping the queue pretending to be refugees.

This stops genuine refugees from getting help.

Why can't we get more people from Norway? (...and Japan)

I support increased humanitarian intake of those in need - which are mostly those in camps iin Africa, not those who can pay people to get on a boat.

Exactly, the intake from Ukraine and South Sudan takes place on the ground in Poland and Uganda respectively.

Those fleeing war tend not to have USD$30,000 for Indonesian and Sri Lankan boat smugglers.

With the climbing ban on Uluru (formerly Ayers Rock) having set the example three years ago, other aboriginal groups in Australia are looking to replicate it in their areas:

The next Uluru? Hikers and Aboriginal elders await decision on closure of Wollumbin summit

Mt Augustus is over twice the size of Uluru and could be added to your list.

It's not a big issue for the indigenous community or the WA public to be honest. If they close it, not much will happen. It's more of a poster topic for international political discussion.

The Aboriginal community at Burringurrah don't mind people climbing it, but they say there are bad spirits there. They would prefer to have financial assistance as a community rather than banning people from climbing it. If they do take money from tourists for climbing it, then that may imply some level of Duty of Care when they get into strife.

People die on the 12km climb in summer, (1-2 per year) mainly through heat exhaustion, getting lost, or both.

The members of the Burringurrah community I met don't really care. They want there kids to move to the Pilbara and get jobs on the Iron Ore mines rather than waste away in squalor, drunkenness and methamphetamine currently ravaging outback communities. It's not pretty.

Rio Tinto, BHP and Fortescue now have 15% qoutas on the mine site employee numbers for aboriginal workers.

That helps their community and people 100 times more than closing 'rocks' to be climbed.

and, of course, just like Christianity, and Judaism and Islam, Australian Aboriginal religion is based in belief not science so the supposed notion of sacred sites is fictional any way.

I find there is a 'fictional' component invented by white people on how they want aboriginal people to appear, particularly on the ABC.

One of the issues people don't want to recognise in Western Australia is that the violence and particularly sexual violence towards woman and young aboriginal children is rife.

Is that because of any particular social issue or is it simply the introduction of CCTV and mobile phones bringing these issues to light?

https://www.watoday.com.au/national/western-australia/its-a-war-zone-out-there-confronting-video-shows-wa-alcohol-drug-violence-20170809-gxsgxu.html

It is hard to imagine, but these behaviours are endemic.

Disrespecting indigenous people when belonging to the group that destroyed their way of life and subsequently oppressed and marginalized them (or groups that benefitted from said actions) is not something any decent person should engage in.

That doesn't make any sense. Caring about children in the Aboriginal community because they are being abused is not disrespectful.

Far from it.

The Greens national vote is only just above what they got at their peak in 2010. 88 percent of voters did *not* vote for the Greens and they do not have mass appeal or a mandate.

The Teals aren't left wingers. They wouldn't have won places like Kooyong etc. if they were.

My Teal that I like Kate Chaney is niece of a former Liberal senator, Fred Chaney.

As for Hiroshima, I refer Bandt to the Japanese having started the war and thus being the *only* ones responsible for the deaths of their own people.

Jeff Kennett and it’s consequences have been a disaster for the Victorian Liberals.

As a Hawthorn fan, I concur. He caused Cyril Rioli to leave.

I think most people agree Morrison sh*t the bed on this one though.

No one I have spoken to cares about this story. Not one person.

And even if they were, no one watches these news stories anymore anyway.

https://thebrag.com/australias-news-show-zero-viewers/

News media in Australia runs these stories hoping for attention, but this will be replaced with some other political melodrama in 2 weeks time, hopefully something with actual meaning and consequences.

You regularly bemoan in your crime thread that no-one seems to care about the disappearance of Indigenous children.

Not true. There is one politician that holds a light to the plight of Aboriginal children who, on a quarterly basis, are eaten live in the teethy jaws of a crocodile whilst the rest of the country lives in ignorance.

ABC.net.au for the last 7 days.

Scott Morrison

Then Albanese relases legal advice saying the political appointments during the COVID pandemic were legal.

ABC.net.au today:

Complete and utter silence.

The bias at the ABC is way too strong towards Labor.

According to news.com.au (and prey to God its the last time I ever link to their filth):

https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/racial-shifters-identifying-as-aboriginal-do-not-lose-their-selfentitlement/news-story/cce0453c77e4184e497625101f4ff83a

92,000 non-indigenous Australians identified as Aboriginal in the last census.

'Race shifting' appears to be a thing in Australia now.

Article on migrants with qualifications and degrees from outside Australia.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-24/higher-education-with-worse-job-outcomes-is-the-reality-for-many/101542354

I have had personal experience with geologists and engineers from outside Australia, and they are generally not up to scratch, particularly from Bangladesh, India, Iran and Pakistan.

Surpringly, Russian geologists and engineers are outstanding as are German and Italians.

The reason is that these degrees in the sub-continent are viewed more as status symbols in society, and you are 'above' certain tasks based on your status, so lesser workers are available for the mundane tasks and you are of a higher 'class' of person than others in those countries.

In Australian Universities, once you graduate and have a degree, you are still expected to work hard and do every job top to bottom and interact equally with everyone.

The other issue more likely than not is the actual quality of the Universities in these countries. We have had some severely uneducated staff from India and Bangladesh. Nice people, but not trained scientifically to a high standard.

Based on experience, I have found African and English geologists fare a lot better, although not all.

Hard work is what this is about, and that attribute can overcome 90% of the communication and language barriers.

I would have to rate South Sudanese geologists and field workers as the most impressive migrant workers I have seen in outback Australia.

They are jets.

Surprised to see no discussion of the censure of Morrison in the House over the secret ministries scandal - ScoMo was pissed off in Parliament.

Personally I didn't really see the point of the censure.

It has no effect or result. Therefore all the left politicians made a week's work out of it.

This feels infinitely worse than all those blackface scandals. At least those outside of the US you could argue ignorance until a decade or so ago. I'm not sure how you could think that wearing a Nazi uniform was ever OK.

However it’s important to note this is an obvious hit job on Perrottet by Clubs NSW in retaliation for his anti-gambling proposals. The timing is very blatant.

But hey, at least they didn’t firebomb his house like they totally definitely 100% didn’t do to Jordan Shanks/friendlyjordies.

Agreed.

100% political from the Transport Minister of the Liberal Party who does not like his politics.

To call it ideological gives him too much credit. David Elliot is in the pocket of the gambling industry and deeply embittered he’s been forced to retire after a hopeless Preselection battle (thanks to the redistribution).

You know more about these guys than I do.

Looks like Dominic is going to survive relatively unscathed. Everyone I spoke to is like "who cares what he wore to a party at University 22 years ago".

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-14/politics-behind-nsw-premier-dominic-perrottet-nazi-costume-spat/101853538

Price Harry survived.

The Swastika is the main offensive symbol to the Jewish community in Australia and Dominic does not deliberately show those off in public, let alone own one.

You can't even get a model Tamiya plane with a swastika on the back wing anymore.

If he wore it in the last 2 years, then I would agree there is in fact a problem. The fact that no photo existed at the time highlights that no one was offended (or smart phones and Facebook were not invented yet).

Are we to assume that Mel Brooks will not make anymore Nazi comedies?

If you are an alcoholic from Alice Springs, it ain't easy under Albanese.

New restrictions on alcohol sales.

Labor's introduction of the 168 hour per week pissup has been a failure.

(a) No alcohol sales on Monday or Tuesday;
(b) Other days, bottle's only open only 3pm-7pm.
(c) only one sale per day per person
(d) scanning of ID to make sure criminals (or people onnthe pissy register) cannot buy alcohol.

It's not really Albo's job. Clearly the Labor leadership in the Northern Territory are not doing their job living in fantasy land.

So Lidia Thorpe has quit the Greens.

She is truly a left wing clone of Pauline Hanson. She wants to be Australia's AOC, but lack a single one of AOC's qualities.

I haven't followed Australian politics that closely lately, but I still don't understand why exactly she opposed the Voice.

She wants a full "black sovereign movement", not a voice.

A voice is seen as toothless. She simply wants more power.

If the ultra left vote against it, then it is doomed.

Senate staff have decided to seat the now Independent Senator Thorpe next to Pauline Hanson. Neither are happy. Quite possibly an excellent troll by the senate functionaries.

I noticed the networks are starting to interview Pauline again.

Better than that horror movie from Tasmania.
