The speech will definitely help Trump. It was focused, disciplined, covered a lot of ground and wooed varied constituencies. He didn't degenerate to the baser instincts and focused on visions of a better country.

Of course his premise is still wrong, the promises were made without a clear idea of how to achieve them and there were quite a few statements that contradicted each other.

However all that is for another day. Tonight he did well and will definitely get a bounce out of it!

We were clearly listening to different speeches.

No, we listened to the same speech. I don't necessarily agree with many things he said, but am just parking subjective feelings and looking at this objectively. The speech WILL help Trump with voters.

The reason why it will help him is that he was disciplined and on point. To many wavering voters Trump comes across as an inept reality TV entertainer (including yours truly Smiley). In fact, Clinton's main premise has been that Trump is not up to the task and simply a huge risk.

Tonight he came across as a slightly smaller risk, while hitting every downtrodden constituency for their vote. It will also help by making people forget Melania's plagiarism, Cruz's non-endorsement and other fun things from the convention
