‘Corona Beer Virus’ Searches Show Brewer Can’t Evade Coronavirus

The novel coronavirus has an unlikely victim -- one of the world’s most popular beers.

Corona has become the subject of memes and videos shared on social media as the toll from the virus climbs worldwide. Reports of an increase in online searches for “corona beer virus” and “beer coronavirus” show the Mexican beer hasn’t been able to escape the association. The so-called purchase intent among adults in the U.S. has plunged to the lowest in two years, according to data from YouGov Plc.

The damage has become more severe in recent days as infections spread. Shares of Corona-maker Constellation Brands Inc. dived 8% this week in New York. Corona’s buzz score -- which tracks whether American adults aware of the brand have heard positive or negative things about it -- has tumbled to 51 from a high of 75 at the beginning of the year, YouGov said.

But he doesn't call virus a hoax. He called Democrats politicizing it a hoax.

One interesting thing that I've noticed is that in 2014, it tended to be Republicans really worried about Ebola and Democrats saying that it was no big deal.  Flash forward to 2020, and Democrats seem to be really worried about coronavirus, while Republicans seem less concerned.

For the record, I disagree with both the "hoax" talk coming from parts of the right and the panic level (i.e. 40 million deaths being the median scenario) coming from most red/maroon avatars in this thread.

Is it always the case that the party that doesn't have the White House will become more concerned about these things?

I mean, we all know why this is (presumably). People take their cues from their group's leaders. In 2014, under Obama, everything he did was wrong and harmful. Under Trump, same feeling, different people (although I would argue one instance has more factual basis than the other, but whatever). So of course people are going to be reacting differently based on who is in power. Right now, Trump is trying to downplay this (in a comically bad and reckless fashion no less), and because he is doing that, Fox News is also trying to do the same, so conservatives who digest all this are naturally going to follow suit.

I almost hate the phrase at this point, but people really are sheep.

The leader of Italy’s co-ruling Democratic Party Nicola Zingaretti said on Saturday he had tested positive for coronavirus.

“I have coronavirus too”, Zingaretti said in a video posted on Facebook, adding he was in self-isolation at home and that all the people he had been in contact with in the latest days were being contacted for checks. He said he was well.

A store in Thailand repackaged and sold up to 200,000 used face masks for coronavirus, police chief says

    A group of Thai workers have used the novel coronavirus outbreak to make an extra buck, washing and repackaging old face masks and selling them as new.
    The store owner told police she had sold up to 200,000 used masks.
    The Thai government has since taken full control of face-mask distribution.

“Police found six workers sorting out used face masks and ironing them before folding them in boxes to look like new, unused ones,”The Nation Thailand reported.

The workers, all in their teens, put the masks in washing machines before flattening them with an iron and sending them to market, police said.

According to the Saraburi province police chief, the 47-year-old store owner said she sold up to 200,000 used masks. Workers earned the equivalent of $US0.03 for every mask they recycled, and they each turned out 300-to-400 masks a day.

A day after authorities found the recycled-mask vendor, the Thai government declared it would take full control of face-mask distribution across the country. The country has recorded at least 47 confirmed coronavirus cases and one fatality.
