I mean hey, if it makes the Democrats drop identity politics and go back to being the JFK party, sure.

If it makes DEMOCRATS quit identity  politics?!? Huh

Realize that is the entire faces of Trumps ideological Coalition, and has been working voter base for the Republican Party since about 1972. It is only accelerated.

Don't think minorities are the only people who play identity politics, or even the primary purveyors of such garbage.

Is that your speech-to-text thingy again Tongue?

A hypothetical Sen. Presley would immediately up for re-election during a presidential year? Sad

If he could do it in 2018, he can do it again two years later if 2020 is another bad year for Republicans and a Democrat wins the White House.

If Democrats were poised to repeat 2006-2008 and possibly wash Trump out of office by an even bigger margin, I'd say Democrats would have an better-than-even shot at holding Alabama and/or Mississippi. They would have the power of incumbency and a significantly anti-Republican environment to run in.

But if it were more neutral or Trump won, they'd likely lose, imo.

State Sen. Deborah Jeanne Dawkins should run for whichever seat Presley does not run for. She is to the left of the state but represents a right-leaning district outside of the metro area and has won three tough races with strong fundraising.

THE most liberal white state Senator in Mississippi, and one of the most liberal overall? Well, i have doubts...

If your ultimate goal is to capture one of the two seats up, wouldn't it make sense to run a conservative candidate (assuming Presley is, I don't really know), and then a more liberal one? They each bring out constituencies that would be useful to the other, but in Presley's case, he would get conservative voters for him and her liberal voters would also go for him, even if she doesn't ultimately win.

Politico is reporting that McConnell wants Bryant to appoint himself.

McConnell is so terrible at optics lol

If Bryant appoints himself, he's a lock to win in November. That's all McConnell cares about.

Ditto. I don't think McConnell has ever cared about optics. He only cares about getting or retaining power. How is irrelevant so long as it gets done.

All we gotta do is look at the cornucopia of “internal polling” showing TN SEN being a super close race as well.

I don’t understand the Alabama comparison. Roy Moore only won by 4 points in his last statewide race against a Democrat with Obama on the ballot in 2012. Hyde-Smith has won statewide office twice now (by 16 points as a non-incumbent and by 25 points as an incumbent). Roy Moore was an alleged pedophile with numerous claims against him. Hyde-Smith is not.

Yea, probably. I'm not expecting anything except maybe closer-than-normal margins at best, although it would be nice to get another win in the deep south.

It's gonna be a while until we have a clearer picture.

Who even cares, Smith will win. Now why have the King County ballots in CA 21 not come in yet?

It turns out that people posting in a Mississippi-related thread care about Mississippi-related elections. Not sure why!

Take your endless Kings County complaints to the other thread please.
