While Democrats still represent the strongest plurality, the decline in their numbers mean that Democrats need to form a coalition with at least one other party/group. The two options are to form a coalition with the most Democratic-friendly independents, no avatars, and non-major party affiliated members ("Other" and "Union") or to partner with the Socialist block. Going the first direction and allying with the independents means dealing with everyone's individual personalities in order to cobble together compromises on every issue. While it might anger more moderate members of the Democratic Party, partnering with the Socialists is the only thing that makes sense from a coalition standpoint. Even if concessions need to be made, better to do it with a single entity rather than a smattering of random individuals.
