Finally Trump won the popular vote somewhere.  Unfortunately for him it was a Grand Jury.

I don't want to be a whiny bitch or anything, but back in 2017 I was summoned for jury duty and the voir dire selection process alone took just over two weeks, for a boring-ass pharmaceutical malpractice civil case.  Meanwhile, jury selection for a criminal case against a former POTUS takes half that time?!

Trump is guaranteed to perjure himself multiple times, so not testifying is strategically the best move for him.

Quote from: "Truth" Social
I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE CHARGES ARE IN THIS RIGGED CASE—I AM ENTITLED TO SPECIFICITY JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE. THERE IS NO CRIME!

Perhaps if he'd stayed awake these past five weeks, he might know what the charges are.

You know, the whole "Biden is behind this" is one of the stupidest current talking points on the right.  You do know that the DA for the Southern District of New York -- that is, the DOJ -- PASSED on bringing these charges as a federal criminal case against Trump?  The New York State DA independently chose to bring the state case that is currently underway.  Don't you think that if the "Biden DOJ" really wanted to prosecute Trump for this, they would have brought their OWN case against him?

Low information voters see no distinction between the different tiers of judicial systems.  Facts and reality are far too complicated for these folks.  Even the enthusiastic spectators (like some in this thread) have no idea what they are talking about.

(I consider myself part of that latter category, but unlike certain people here, I choose to generally stay quiet and read the contributions of those who do know what they are talking about.)

You can go on and on as much as you want about how supposedly politically motivated Bragg is, but he doesn't decide the verdict. The jury does. And not a single juror voted not guilty on a single charge. They thought based on the evidence he was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, of everything he was charged with. If this case was totally contrived, I can't imagine such an overwhelming verdict. That jury even included someone who uses Truth Social, so clearly it was not a bunch of resist libs convicting Trump because they hate him.

Hope that Trump has the jurors summarily executed once he's president again. That'll teach them a lesson or two about obyeing the rule of law.

Careful; I already made a joke about Trump's supporters ensuring a "hung jury" either way and it got deleted.

^ Has any high-profile perpetrator of white collar crime ever shown remorse or accountability, like, ever?

I took a class on white collar crime last semester and a consistent theme from our guest speakers who were defense attorneys is that they found violent criminals are far easier to work with than white collar criminals. At least the former will acknowledge they did something bad

This makes perfect sense.  The type of person who commits white-collar crime - disproportionately older white men - aren't used to being told "no you can't just do whatever you want".  Consequences for their own actions are often an alien concept.

Heartbreaking news.

Omg there is nothing wrong with so-called "armed robbery"!  The charges against him should have never been brought!  The people he supposedly robbed are all liars!  The prosecution was biased!  The jury was biased!  Former presidents should never be charged with alleged crimes, because it's bad for the country!

I just donated $1000 to the 'Draft Carter 2024' PAC.

I just realized that in case Biden wins reelection, he will also be the first presidential candidate to defeat convicted felon, lol.

Warren G. Harding erasure, among the opponents he beat in 1920 was Eugene V. Debs, who won a little over 3% of the vote, almost 1M votes (but not his own as a convicted felon) as the Socialist nominee while federally imprisoned on sedition charges for opposing the Great War, & it was President Harding who ultimately commuted the sentence & ordered Debs' release on Christmas Day 1921, insisting on inviting him to the White House the next day for the 2 men's first public meeting (Harding despised Wilson's political persecutions like Debs').

Lyndon LaRouche's presidential bid in 1992 was conducted from federal prison.

Maggie Haberman says that the sentencing date being days before the RNC is, as always, Trump's lawyers' fault:

The July date for sentencing is a date that Trump’s own lawyer sought. It is not as if the judge was like, “oh, yes, let’s let’s do this there. ”

Todd Blanche asked for, he didn’t mention the Republican National Committee, but he did ask for a mid to late July sentencing date. So that was his choice.
