Hawaii would make more sense, though I'm quite happy being in the liberal democracy which is also my favorite bit of the country.

Many if not most timelines that create a communist USA make Hawaii analogues to Taiwan, though the map creator decided that Hawaii isn't powerful enough to compare to Taiwan.
