Saying "the concepts and ideas are common so how can you say she plagiarised it" is like saying "respect for the dead, bravery in war, and humility before god are common themes so how can you say she plagiarized the Gettysburg Address when she talked about the new nation our forefathers set forth on this continent?  Liberal hack, the number of scores ago wasn't even the same"

It's blatantly, obviously plagiarized and right now the top story on CNN is "PLAGIARISM IN MELANIA TRUMP SPEECH". This is probably going to drown out the Giuliani speech, clearly the highlight of the night.  It's also probably going to drown out the #NeverTrump shenanigans and the Benghazi lady whose hatred for Hillary seemed both personal and completely-over-the-top, so I guess that's good for the GOP at least.

This is also most people's first and only impression of Melania.  Heck, the only two times I've ever seen her before are in that Trump family town hall on CNN and that one time she introduced him at a rally.  I thought the speech was overall pretty decent given her clear discomfort, but unfortunately for her this is going to be what she's remembered for and it will be "Trump's wife, the bimbo who plagiarized Michelle Obama's speech" to the American people unless they can pull of an artful turnaround.

My guess would be that Trump muddles the issue similar to how Seriously? is, by going on some networks and saying "they both used some common ideas, some common phrases, they both wanted to give an inspirational and uplifting message, and I think that's something you shouldn't tear someone down for."

The Obama, Biden, etc. examples are far less egregious anyway because it's just one little turn of phrase and it's not supposed to be personal or revealing.  Obama isn't professing to be revealing his deepest feelings by borrowing a one-sentence argument from Patrick or Warren ("you didn't build that").  Melania was ostensibly showing her true self and giving a heartfelt argument for her husband's candidacy and why they would be great in the White House.  But she couldn't so she borrowed Michelle Obama's instead.

I will now accept my accolades

Wrote the entire script to the Trump campaign response within five minutes of the story breaking and nailed the entire thing, right down to the "tear down" script-flipping language.
