Chauncey Gardner

Serious answer:  someone he perceives as being able to make DEALS in congress.  I could honestly see him picking Santorum, they basically agree on economic issues, which is what Santorum is really passionate about these days, and Santorum was the third-most-powerful Senator in his heyday and could probably still help Trump get his agenda through and forge alliances.

Lamar Alexander would be a great choice if Trump can get him.
He might also go with Sessions.  Immigration seems like a winning horse and it's an issue where the GOP can make a much stronger case than the Democrats.  The Democrats have crying kids who don't want mommy to get sent back to Mexico, but the Republicans can find poor women from a homeless shelter who had jobs until they were fired so their boss could pay an illegal immigrant $3 an hour.  Trump has already shown that he can find dozens of women whose children were murdered by illegal immigrants.  The Democrats have no defense against the drug war argument for building a wall.

I'm sure Trump is smart enough to not pick a LePage, West, Palin, Cuban, Carson, Cruz, or some other controversial outsider.  I think he wants a safe, solid pick to counterbalance his lack of experience, be an important tool once he's in the White House, and bring gravitas and credibility to the ticket.  Trump's not delusional, he knows he's going to have a problem in the general election with those 60% of Republicans who say they would never vote for him, he needs to give them an olive branch, not drive them away by picking Allen West or whoever.

1.) Scott Brown
2.) Jon Huntsman
3.) Jeff Flake

Not in the list: Susana Martinez, Nikki Haley, Chris Christie

Why not Christie?  They're buds, Trump cancels out all of Christie's weaknesses (brash asshole with checkered history) and Trump/Christie would absolutely dominate every aspect of the election and achieve 95% media saturation.

Huntsman has, in my opinion, a better shot for the State Department than the VP's Office.

I really don't think Trump will pick Huntsman.  He spends all day criticizing how the Obama administration has let China take advantage of us and made bad trade deals, and then he goes and picks the Obama administration's ambassador to China?
