The regressive POP tax was repealed today by a veto proof majority.  With it, the clouds finally broke over Chicagoland, the sun shined, and we drank our sugary drinks in harmony.  The people of Cook County finally woke up, for the first time, and the politicians listened.

Next, we vote Taxwinkle out of office.

Pritzker is so much worse.  I'd rather have Kennedy.

New primary poll from Capfax (that I'm not putting in the poll board b/c I don't have the full crosstabs):
JB 39%
Kennedy 15%
Biss 6%
Daiber 1%
Hardiman 1%

Sample size 1,154, MoE +/- 3

Kennedy has become Jeb! Leading the first few polls and collapsing later on to a billionaire, nice.

You're so right, Kennedy is totally Jeb! I hate it cause I supported/support both guys, but they are nearly impossible sells as candidates.

(Is this sarcasm? just want to be sure)

Assuming it isn't, you'll probably end up holding your nose and voting Pritzker, just like I think most Soc Cons will hold their nose and vote for Rauner.

Pritzker is so much worse.  I'd rather have Kennedy.

Only reasons Kennedy isn't the nom is Pritzker's $/Establishment Ties and the fact that the Kennedy name isn't enough anymore.

I think many conservatives in Illinois will just not vote at all.  Rauner has really shot himself in the foot.  People are disgusted with him.

I was actually very impressed with Taxwinkle's proposed budget.  She is cutting deep.

Can we just rename this the Illinois Catch All Megathread?  The Governors race won't even be interesting.  Rauner lied to the Cardinal.

Ouch!  If I were Rauner, I'd hold my fire until after JB has won the primary.  He might not make it at this point.  Progressives are turning on him.

Well, Illinois is a failed state.  The only people left interested in "running" it are just looking to scavenge what wealth it has left to line their pockets.  They'd better act fast though, not gonna be anything left to steal soon.

Ives had a spot during the Super Bowl halftime.  I think Rauner should be very concerned.

I feel bad for Illinoisans who consistently must vote for the lesser evil. In VA, we generally have sensible choices. Generally.

No.  The candidates we have are a direct result of the character of the great people of Illinois.  They own it.

There are a lot of interesting races in Illinois aside from Governor.  The Chicago mayoral race is starting to get some attention.  Paul Vallas might run and Garry McCarthy is all but in.  Toni Taxwinkle is being challenged by Bob Fioretti in the aftermath of her pop tax debacle.  She used to be untouchable but not anymore.  Then obviously there's Joe Berrios vs Fritz Kaegi.

Should we we turn this into an Illinois megathread or create a Cook County megathread??

Vallas is running for Mayor?!!!

God help us all.

He's strongly considering it.

McCarthy will fill the Garry Chico role, I imagine there will be a black candidate.  If that black candidate has sufficient progressive cred, he/she would be a real threat.  If it's just a local hack, not so much.  Not seeing what constituency Vallas would appeal to outside of the white establishment that will already be behind Rahm.

I've seen a lot of Kwame Raoul ads and a few for Nancy Rotering, but radio silence for Pat Quinn.  I'm also surprised he would be considered a front runner, but I guess name recognition does matter.  Who will downstate support?  Drury?

Illinois voters, when faced with important choices, almost always choose the worst candidate.  Today will probably be the same.  The smart people are the ones fleeing the state!

Was putting up signs a little while ago. Kennedy's signs are so yellow you can't even read his name. Like how do you mess that up even

The kennedy signs by me are green with shamrocks.  I like them.

I hope Preckwinkle loses.  Not many people are paying attention but there's lot of anger toward her.  She'll probably win easy.  I will support Bob F.

No matter what happens if Joe Berrios loses it will be an ok night.

I hope Drury pulls off the upset.  He ran a lot of ads in the last week.

Did I miss something, why has the general consensus changed to Ives winning? Poll last week was close but not crazy.

There was a junk poll released today and everyone freaked out.

Early vote or a precinct?  I would expect the exurban areas of Western Kane to be among the best for Ives in the state.  They're nutty.

Rauner's supposed to do best in Chicago + suburbs right?

Yeah but a lot of Kane is exurban.  If it's from east Kane, like St. Charles or Batavia, he should be winning by more.

Very weak for Rauner in Lake County.  He will lose if this is how he fared on Election Day as well IMO, unless Ives underperforms downstate.

Rauner might be helped by super low downstate turnout.  No major major candidates from any of the big races from downstate.  Should depress turnout.
