Pronouncement of War

The treacherous Ironborn have invaded the North without cause or reason. Robb is to be Lord in my stead, and I trust the Lords Bolton, Umber, Karstark, Wull, and all to join him in defending the North from these invaders. To the more reasonable Ironborn, who have long sweated under Balon and his foolish rebellions, we will be reasonable after this war. But for now? The men born of ice and snow must destroy those born of Iron. Crush the slimy squids where they stand, and raise all your banners, my faithful Lords.

Long live the North!

To the Lords and Ladies of Westeros

Lord Tully, Lord Bolton, Lady Arryn, and many others have already raised their banners and joined me. Robert Baratheon, my dearest friend, named me Regent and Protector of the Realm. He instructed me to crown his heir, and I will do so when King’s Landing lets those of us loyal to his memory in.

I invite those who call themselves neutral, like the Lord Rosby and Lord Rykker of Duskendale, to recognize me as Regent and to raise your banners. Any man crowned King before I have approved and crowned him is a false King and has no claim to the Iron Throne.

I myself wield the authority of the Iron Throne in this interregnum and do therefore declare Lord Balon Greyjoy an outlaw, a traitor, and a rebel. I furthermore restore the title Warden of the East to Lord Robert Arryn. Long live the Seven Kingdoms, and death to the traitors to the Iron Throne!

This by proclamation of Regent Eddard Stark, Protector of the Realm, Warden of the North, Lord of Winterfell
