So... I've been thinking about who I would realistically like to see as Biden's VP, and I'm kind of leaning towards Ayanna Pressley. Is there any major downside I'm not seeing to picking her? I feel like I haven't seen her name mentioned often, despite being fairly well-known among the Democratic Party faithful.

I do feel like the VP choice will be announced sooner rather than later considering what is going on in the world and the primary already being over. With little (or no?) rallies this campaign season, Dems are going to want the VP pick out early enough so people have time to get to know them amidst all the coronavirus coverage.

Crazy to think looking back on it that Obama and McCain didn't announce their picks until August 23rd and 29th respectively.

good point

It's funny how that 13% of non-Biden supporting Sanders supporters who in turn are about 30-40% of Democrats who in turn are around 50% of voters who in turn are around 50-60% of the population (works out to about 1.3% of the country) seem to make up the outright majority of political posts on my Facebook page.

Being real for a sec?
I cannot, CANNOT, understand how the agreement of the Dems has become "okay so if Biden gets in he'll serve a term then resign and allow his vp to run for their own term"
Like, wtf just vote in the VP instead? Why are there all these extra steps?!

The Democrats aren't saying this.  Just political pundits getting to creative.

Biden is going to serve two terms.

Very, very much doubt this.

If Biden wins in 2020, I don't think he would willingly step aside for someone else in 2024. You would be shunting aside a proven winner for someone untested. Democrats would want to retain incumbency advantage as well which means keeping Biden.

I suspect it will come down to how well his VP choice is received and how well she performs in the office. If she demonstrates over the first 2 or 3 years that she's ready to take over, I'd say it's 50/50 whether Biden runs for a second term. If she's Quayle/Cheney/Edwards/Palin 2.0, Biden probably runs again.

Were Atlasians this huffy with McCain back in 2008 when he waited until freakin' Labor Day weekend to announce Palin?

Does the hate for Rice just boil down to "Benghazi"? I'm not saying that's not a big problem that should give Biden pause about picking her. But if that's it, then I don't see why we need to be in panic mode over Rice if she's passed all the other vetting.

Tangentially related question, has Atlas ever done a demographics survey?

Yes. Young, white, male, and disproportionately LGBT+.

Looks like the model and the VP are most likely coming on the same day — Wednesday, my dudes.

Nate Silver confirmed for VP?

Wait, why are we texting "First" when we could just wait all of five seconds and see what's posted on this thread?

Maybe Biden will actually turn out to be what Trump supporters think he is and will name Assata Shakur as his running mate. The delay has just been trying to figure out a way to get her to a rally with him without the authorities finding out.

Man, I got three mosquito bites while I slept last night. Bad sign for Melinda Gates's VP chances.

I like Warren and think she'd make a good VP, but the RUMINT of Warren in Wilmington plus the private flight from South Bend yesterday has me really irrationally hoping for Biden to announce a full cabinet, regardless of who the Veep is. I'm way more eager to hear who the Secretaries of State, Defense, and Homeland Security are way more than whoever will be Vice President.
