Told my mother I'm gay. Can't say the reaction was amazing, but at least it was mildly accepting.
Also found out my sister is Lesbian- I'm kinda mad that they didn't tell me as if it's some terrible secret.

Today marks four years since my dad died.  I feel like the ensuing depression kicked in all of the last two days.  I can barely think straight, my body temperature's been all over the place, and my muscles are so stiff I feel like I'm 90.

Elaborating on my last post in here. i couldn't sleep last night. my existential struggle that plagued me last fall is back.

specifically in relations to my sexuality. I haven't been able to live a functional life because of my insistence of staying in the closet/being scared to come out due to homophobic/biphobic family.

it's getting lonely in the closet and i'm not sure i can take anymore mental anguish from it. :/

thinking about coming out to my sister, who is the most likely to have a non-awful response.

I think you should. It can be hard, but not always. No matter what happens, I think you'll find that the benefits will significantly outweigh the negatives, even if it takes a bit to realize that. I was forced out basically in high school, and I could have lied to my parents and "gone straight" so to speak, but I didn't, and it caused a lot of problems at first. But then things were so much easier later in life. I'm glad I didn't drag on with it, and I think you would be too. Don't let the best years of your life go by trying to keep a lid on something that is eventually going to have to come off no matter what.

@Virginia: Yea, I've been thinking about it all day. I'm hopefully going to tell someone today. I went out for a bit to try and get myself in a good enough mood to do it. I think it's been a good day so far, so I definitely am leaning towards reaching out.

How conservative was your upbringing, Virginia?

And yeah, I'm pretty gender nonconforming but otherwise I'm really not LGBT so I can't be of much help in this area.  All I can say is follow your instinct and do what you think is best for yourself.  This is about you and your comfort, not anyone else's.  I'll pray for you, Sunrise.

Obligatory prayer/positive vibes request... I'm sorry if I'm bumming anyone out.  I'm crying now.

Prayers sent your way. One of the other issues I've been dealing with is mild-to-serious depression/anxiety, though I think my situation is a bit different then yours.

I've always been pretty social, for the most part, but my extroverted tendencies have wound up hurting me in terms of getting help for depression. I always felt like I had an obligation to put on a public face and stay active in my communities. Came back to hurt me big time.

I think balance is something everyone should strive for, but much easier to say than actually do, of course.  I'm still struggling to find a balance.

My demons had been coming back lately. And I planned on doing something stupid on sunday.

Tonight, I changed my mind. I have been hanging out w/ old friends the last few days. and while I don't feel the old connections I had w/ them, I feel like being around them saved my life. I am especially glad I still keep my connection with my fraternity brothers.  

I don't how people can be (seemingly) happy all the time, but being around those people makes me happy, or at least less sad.

I hope this new feeling doesn't end but I'm leaving the D.C. area soon, sadly.

Since 1993 I've appeared 31 times on an official ballot (including primaries and party offices). This morning I announce that I won't be on in 2018. I'm timing the announcement to occur before my big western road trip which starts on Friday. Petitions for 2018 start circulating just after Labor Day, everyone will know my plans well in advance.
