I never had any actual indication you were going to be playing in earnest, but okay.

Sorry? I responded to your initial move, and you didn't play for three days so the game expired. I'm happy to replay it if the group thinks that is necessary.
I reloaded the page one or two days ago and there was no notice in the places I looked that the game had started.
It seems that unfamiliarity with how things would proceed and with the site itself (I've never used Chess.com before), as well as insufficient communication from either end, precipitated this. I would like to apologize for not being forthcoming enough with questions and asking for notification and for my role in this occuring.

I mean, I don't have any problem with this. You can do a rematch, provided the colors are the same and provided it's a quick match.
I'm fine with that.

The game engine told me that I used the Arctic Defense (which is said to create long, drawn-out defense battles) and only had one or two blunders. All in all I defended well, but I found it hard to regain footing after one of my rooks was forked and I immediately had a material disadvantage and I felt that once my pawns on the kingside were wiped out, it would be game over. The pawn structures in the center were invaluable in slowing the tempo of your advance but I reckon they would have been lost either way.

I considered asking for a draw but felt that it was unjustified.

All in all, a great game indeed and it was a pleasure playing.

Both the last two matches are currently ongoing and it looks like you will receive a bye. I think this round will be over soon.
Ah. Thanks for the info.
What placing did I (likely) get?

All eyes on muon and bore unless someone new steps in to face TimTurner.
If you're needing someone to step in as a replacement, I'd be willing to.

People are jumping in and out of this game, so what the hell.

You play as black against TimTurner.
Righto, here's my chess.com account https://www.chess.com/member/Nyx6

Have sent him a challenge.
I have accepted the challenge. Quite some time ago. Apologies for not notifying you in this thread until now.

I'm sorry, but can TimTurner and patzer please pick up the pace? We've been in this round for the better part of two months and you guys are only on turn 8.

I vote for flipping a coin and declaring a winner based on the coin toss.

I'll give them until Wednesday to finish their game or else flip a coin.
Me and patzer are up to turn 12 now. I apologize if that's not quickly enough. This game started later than it should have been but it's been progressing probably normally fast now.

Lost my queen, then made an ill-fated move I thought would be very clever.
GG, patzer!

Now that the tournament has entered its fifth month, it might be worthwhile to consider if this is the way we want to do these things going forward. We had a lot of drop-outs, and it's hard to keep people engaged for this long.

If people are willing to play more than one game at once, another option is pool play. Players are grouped in pools of 3-5 players and play games within their pool all at once. The winners (or top two) in each pool go into a finals pool.
I'm willing to do pool play, if others see it as a good step to take as well.

I'm concerned about how slow this tournament is going.

There's only one game left in the round. All other games were done by Jan 4. The round can go no faster than the slowest game. The tournament uses a 3-day/move time limit, and some players are more likely to use their full time limit.
Thanks for the update.

Damn this tournament is still going?  If any of the leaders wants to play some blitz DM me

Look I'm still a novice and I have no idea how this works (hence why muon is in charge of these match-ups and not me) but if there's a consensus to switch to blitz then I won't protest.
Btw, I just accepted your challenge.

Won my match against Tim Turner. Good game, Tim. I'm glad I was able to end this on a somewhat better note.
It was a pleasure, thank you.
You getting your best move 27 times vs only 11 times for me was probably decisive.
And you got accuracy of almost 90%, relative to my 73%.
Best of luck in the rest of the tournament!
EDIT: why in the world does the game engine think pawn to f5 is a good move in turn 21, when it would have let you take my queen without me being able to respond?

Why not take a middle ground and reduce the three-day limit to two?
