I wonder what would be easier: slashing one's wrists or simply overdosing pills. Hard to decide indeed. Damn Christmas.
Please don't say stuff like this, and please don't think about stuff like this.

I realized I might be a bit gayer than I thought yesterday. basically I met a dude and we did some stuff and now I'm questioning everything.
This is the type of conversion that I do support.

My Dutch friends would laugh at this but Update for Everyone is just right for it: I just did this very Dutch thing for the first time, i.e. buying a joint. Not for me (don't like it), but for my roommate's gf, who had forgotten her ID and I still owed her a few euros for a pizza. So I went to the "coffee shop" (aka pot store) which is incredibly close to my place, literally a minute away. Entered the place, looked at the menu, said what I wanted, paid 3 euros (1 joint with hash), took it and left. No ID questions, nothing. Literally as easy as getting eggs at the corner store and it didn't take me much longer either. Wow! My roommate's gf laughed at me for not having done this before though...

I worry about you so. Stay away!
Haha, thanks! I will -- not hard whatsoever. Tried it a few times with friends, I don't enjoy it and it makes me cough my lungs out, as I don't smoke. The last time I did it was on the Brexit referendum night, when I got very, very "stronken", as we Dutch say: stoned and "dronken"/drunk (left a fair number of sh**tposts here too). So I don't enjoy it and don't expect to go back there anytime soon. But still something a Dutch person probably should have experienced.

Round here in 'Merica, we call that being crossfaded. I want to go to Amsterdam soooo bad.
Was already looking for the English equivalent... hit me up in advance if you plan on visiting the Netherlands!

Well, summer has finally come and I'm back.

Among other things that happened, I've finally submitted and defended my dissertation prospectus, which means that starting next year I'll be working full-time on my dissertation.
What will it be about?
How globalization is reshaping political cleavages in developed democracies. #relevant
Highly interesting stuff. I have also written in this area. Could you elaborate a bit more on what you plan on doing?

Great to hear you are enjoying life in the Netherlands.

Just came home from the evening synagogue service for Tisha B'Av, the second most important fast day (24.5 hours) in Judaism, where we commemorate the destruction of the First and the Second Temple, alongside other calamities. While Yom Kippur is focused on asking for forgiveness individually, Tisha B'Av is about the collective, about our past (and present?) wrongdoings towards G-d as a nation.

21 hours of fasting left Smiley

They are sh**tty though, but they are re-founding organisation in my city so I wont to try and see how PARTISAN LIFE looks like. Probably I will leave after second meeting.
Wouldn't they be too anti-Catholic for you?

Having a mild existential crisis because I have to leave a decent job, friends, and a girlfriend behind to finish college and get depressed again
Take care of yourself. Do what is necessary, but allow yourself to have some fun from time to time too, make new friends in college, and seek a therapist.

I've had a fulltime job abroad, but never in NL before. Now I have an actual grown-up people job here, though fortunately only four days a week. The place is right, the atmosphere is right and I like what I do. Still, when I get home at 6:30 or so, I am completely exhausted and have no energy to do anything anymore; this includes hitting the gym, so I literally haven't been there for weeks and I hate it (though no excuse not to go there on my three days off I suppose).

Congratulations? What do you do?
I want to elaborate but I think it's best if I don't; too afraid of getting doxxed. Anyway, I have my own office and I sit at a desk for hours and hours. I don't understand how it's possible to get so tired from that.
