I have the impression European hardcore scenes are full of people who are "traditionalist" (in the sense that they hate foreigners and feel connected to weird pagan rituals that obviously never existed in the way these people claim) yet who are vehemently opposed to organized religion at the same time, even though the latter might be different in Southern Europe. Not a nice bunch. Voted for the second option.

Not entirely sure what the difference would be, for me, and that would probably be true for more people who are minorities... But I'll vote for ethnic identity since I also feel connected to Jews who don't adhere to the same Jewish lifestyle/"subculture" as I do.

Uh hardly true for all, I know that all Jews in the hardcore scene would answer that over their Jewishness.

How, exactly, does your statement contradict my statement? Because you seem to imply that.

They are in the US.

You seem to understand this, but many (including oddly enough it seems most European posters, despite the fact that the hardcore scene and conventions full of cosplayers certainly exist in Europe too) don't.

In my time on Atlas I've come to understand that there are so many differences between "American thinking" and "European thinking", based on underlying assumptions Europeans aren't likely to discuss among themselves and Americans aren't likely to discuss among themselves because they are so implicit yet so central to our worldviews. It is an extremely interesting phenomenon and it taught me how European my thinking is. At the same time, it leads to tremendous miscommunication on this forum, or I might also say: tremendous disagreement.

And that has nothing to do with hardcore.
