Aaron Coleman is not a good guy. I hope Frownfelter can mount a write-in campaign!

Nope. Kansas has a sore loser law.

What does that mean?

Alaska and West Virginia have sore loser laws, but they only apply to candidates on the ballot, not write-ins. Does the sore loser law in Kansas apply to write-in candidates?

I dont think they do. He hasn't talked about doing so. I think he ought to respect the democratic process but its ultimately his choice.

The district is in Kansas City. A republican doesn't have a chance there. I hope the recount doesn't overturn the result

What is wrong with this dude? The State House Speaker should refuse to seat him, this is insane.
Not sure if they can do that. There has to be legitimate reason for that. I dont think they can refuse to seat someone just because they feel like it.

Im not defending his actions but everyone makes mistakes. if he's genuinely sorry there is no need to withraw or refuse to seat him

This race isn't over yet, as the vote canvas (which will rule on any provisional ballots) takes place on Monday.

That being said, talk of the Speaker not allowing Coleman to be seated if he wins is honestly a bit much. The power to expel ought not be expansive enough to empower the State House to simply disregard the will of Coleman's electorate, however distasteful the State House may find his previous conduct, because Coleman's constituents still chose to elect him despite knowing about his actions. The State House needs to respect that if they respect, y'know, the idea of democracy.

I agree completely with this. I have a feeling the lead will likely expand slightly

Very much agree.

Certainly doesn't speak well to me about Frownfelter's campaign that he's having this much trouble with a high school dropout with the questionable conduct & comments of Coleman. Would the seat just be vacant for a couple more months?
No Frownfelter would serve until January when his term comes to and end and Coleman is sworn in. The seat is too blue for A Republican to win it.

Provisional ballots will be counted today therefore we should know by tonight if he has indeed won.

If he does the democratic process ought to be respected. There should be no write in campaign and if he wins the general which is very likely he ought to be seated and given committee assignments. There is no reason for the speaker not too.

He has officially won by 14 votes. the incumbent said he will pursue a recount and is considering a write in campaign in the fall.

A soon-to-be seated Kansas lawmaker has had a temporary anti-stalking order issued against him in court at the request of a former opponent’s campaign manager, who said he sent her harassing messages, came to her home twice and tried to get her evicted.

State Rep.-elect Aaron Coleman, a 20-year-old Democrat from Kansas City, Kansas, will face a video hearing Dec. 16 in state district court in his home of Wyandotte County to determine whether the temporary order stays in place. The temporary order, issued by a judge Friday, orders Coleman not to communicate “in any manner” with Brandie Armstrong, also of Kansas City, Kansas, or follow her or come “on or around” her home or job site.

This guy is why the minimum age for any elected office should be at least thirty.
No it shouldn't.
