Aaron Coleman, a high school dropout who ran for governor as a write-in independent in 2018 is running for State House (HD-37). This is a safe D district with no Republican running, and he currently leads incumbent Rep. Stan Frownfelter by 1 vote.

Coleman recently drew criticism online when he laughed at Herman Cain's death and said "it would be funny" if Republican lawmakers who don't wear masks die, though it seems to me that he was sh*tposting.

In addition, quite a few candidates in their 20's won primaries across the state and across the aisle. I like seeing young political activism in my state!

There is nothing that can really surprise me after the election of Mr. Trump.

Also of note: If he does win, I believe that makes him the first officeholder to be born in the 21st century.

True, I think the current 'youngest elected official in America' is a member of a ME Town Council who was born in 2000.

Truly hilarious. Somehow even more surreal than nearly 10% of Vermont Dems voting for a literal teenager.

Ironically enough, the 19-year-old from Kansas looks older than this 26-year-old from Missouri who also won his primary and is likely going to his state legislature.

Wow, a public school teacher who's a Republican and wants to cut property taxes. Folks, sometimes youth brings fresh ideas and sometimes it brings this Alfred E. Neuman lookin' mofo parroting Koch talking points.

Why does it feel like the vast majority of 20 year olds running for office are Republicans? This 'Americans for Prosperity' kid and the 24 year old real-estate CEO in NC-11 feel like outliers amongst their generation

I sense a lot of it is wealth-related

It's definitely related to wealth, no doubt. These guys probably have a trust fund and look around and think, "oh, it'd be cool to run for office." And because of their family's money they can get a toehold in these primaries and go on from there.

If we had a UK-style seat selection system I guess we'd probably would have a lot more 20-somethings in Congress, since in that case you can be a university student who's active in the primary and potentially get selected regardless of your wealth.

There could be some local school board member or town councilman or something.

But this would appear to be true in state level politics. The closest person thus far is West Virginia Delegate Caleb Hanna, born in October 1999.
