The Slavic and Mexican nationalisms are odious as well, but they've already been mentioned.
Russian nationalism expresses itself as the
violent,
visible suppression of foreign nationals and internal minorities within Russia and of the non-Russian majorities in the surrounding countries where ethnic Russians constitute a significant plurality.
That alone makes Russian nationalism contemptible, but the Russian nationalists in government also combine that (state-sanctioned) political violence with blackmail of the economies surrounding it through petropolitik; instigating revolts in Third World countries just to take temporary advantage of the ensuing social dislocation -- the games they play with Iran threaten all civilization -- all leavened with an arrogance to think that their thuggery and whole-hearted support for internal corruption is somehow
rational and politically sophisticated**!
I should have been clearer about what I meant by Slavic nationalisms: I mean specifically, and emphatically, Russian, Serbian, Bosnian (Christian and Muslim) and Pan-Slavic nationalisms, all of which display the traits I just described. The Polish, Ukrainian, and Croat nationalisms, because they are Western oriented, are less offensive to national security, personal safety, and liberalism than the Orthodox- and Islamic-inspired ones. OTOH Macedonian "nationalism" is just a little short of embarrassing.
With that said, how do you consider American nationalism as the second biggest threat today?
