Xavier Becerra surely is the long-term replacement here.

I don't know about that, he's 62 & if he really wanted to be a lifer, then he would've stayed in the House. Not to mention, he'd probably be the next Democratic leader instead of Hakeem Jeffries.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that he is probably angling for the governorship.
What about Ricardo Lara? He was likely the young and gay politician you were thinking of, not KDL (who isn’t openly gay).

Doesn’t Lara have issues? https://www.sacbee.com/opinion/article234952877.html

I think Becerra would be a much better pick.

What about John Chiang or Jimmy Gomez?

Not that familiar with Gomez, but I’d love to see Chiang as a Senator.

Hot take: Katie... Hill

But really, Jerry Brown would be the best placeholder.

Becerra wouldn’t be bad, but he would be kind of weird in the sense that he was in the House, Brown tapped him for AG, then Newsom taps him for Sen. I think that Becerra would be a good candidate for 2022 if Newsom picks a placeholder.

John Chiang would be nice to see as well.

Becerra was a shock in 2016 given his seniority, but I don’t think that Schiff would accept.

toss-up because

padilla will be APPOINTED, not elected
Rs picked up four seats in ca
ca swung to trump
californians don't mind young kim's homophobia (imo)

will be hotly contested tbh

2/10, should be a single paragraph and needs a few more emojis.
