Well, with Grassley running again, that rules out Ashley Hinson’s back up option if the proposed Iowa redistricting maps pass. I wonder if Finkenauer will drop down to the IA-01 race if the proposed map passes? It would certainly be an easier race than running against Grassley.

And yes, Grassley stated he’s running again, but I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if he decided to drop out right before the filing deadline in an effort to clear the field for his grandson, Pat Grassley. Unlikely that that’s his plan, but can’t rule it out.

A pretty embarrassing setback for the Finkenauer campaign:

If the Iowa Supreme Court upholds this decision to keep Finkenauer off the ballot, I imagine the Democratic primary frontrunner will be Michael Franken, a retired U.S. Navy Admiral who was the runner up in the 2020 senate primary. It appears he’d be a decent backup candidate (not that it really matters, since this race is Safe Republican regardless).

If the ruling is upheld, it’s a pretty embarrassing setback for Finkenauer that may impact her ability to run a successful campaign in the future (which is unfortunate, because she’s pretty young and could run for office again later on).
