How would he be elected as a Democrat when he's so far to the right? 
Like what if Bernie Sanders was a Republican, would he be running for President? Gosh, I don't, we'd be talking about a totally different person.
Look at Trump's views in Bush's 2nd term, they were super anti-Bush and pretty left-wing and pretty ridiculously so as well. Then when Obama became President he became ridiculously anti-Obama and the reason for both is because Trump in his entire life loved to make himself look controversial as that increased his publicity.
The 2011 Correspondents dinner though is when it changed from him just wanting to act controversial as his oversized ego was hurt at that dinner and he basically after that he actually started hating Obama personally and wanted to do everything he could do to take revenge and thats why he ran for President so he could get back at Obama for that night and wipe out his legacy.
Which is exactly why when he took office instead of trying to use political capital to build the wall and do an infrastructure deal he used it to try to repeal Obamacare because he was more interested in wiping out Obama's legacy then following through on his promises.
