Its disgusting that an Indian Prime Minister is holding a rally for himself INSIDE the United States.  If this was the Mexican President or an Arab the Trumpists would be having a heart attack.  He should be denied access to the United States - again.

I absolutely agree - This is a very concerning trend across the west. Modi has held a similar massive rally in the UK with David Cameron back in 2015, in Wembley Stadium, where a massive number of British of Indian ethnicity came to cheer him, waving Indian flags, chanting nationalist slogans calling Modi - not Cameron -  their Prime Minister. People, mind you, born and bred in Britain, with British nationality -  this is dangerous. Over here in Germany we have the same thing with Germans of Turkish Origin and Erdogan. We have had rallies in Melbourne and Vancouver by Australians and Canadians of Chinese Origin supporting "their Countrys" - China, that is - response in Hong Kong.

This is disloyalty, plain and simple. India perhaps, unlike China is not a national security threat in the immediate term, but how is this acceptable? If there were War, who would these people choose? We have thousands of potential enemy combatants in our countries. Sobering indeed. It should be said that, luckily, these people are a small minority of the various ethnic communities in the West. Most Asian immigrants, and that includes me, are loyal. But it still shows that we must strengthen our integration/assimilation approach towards immigrant communities. If the west doesnt, then we are in big trouble.

TBF there are a non-negligible number of Indian people in Houston who aren't US citizens - they're H1-B or green card holders and should be thought of as expatriates rather than as immigrants. I wouldn't say it's "disloyal" for them to attend an event for the leader of their home country.

I would guess this event will mostly attract the expat/recent immigrant crowd.

The Indian-Americans I know are families that mostly came here in the '70s/'80s and wouldn't necessarily connect with Modi's brand of politics since they largely grew up in the older Congress Party era.

They shouldn't even be here to begin with then.  THIS is the major problem with our immigration system.  Not the poor Mexicans who come here to work in the fields or as maids.  The "highly skilled" Indians who come here to work minimum wage for corporations as help desk people & move back to India as soon as they've made enough money.

yes the >100k median income and almost doubling in population each of the last three decades comes from minimum wages jobs and not settling. got the socioeconomic profile of desis in the us perfectly.

Yes.  It comes from replacing Americans who made ~30~ an hour with "highly skilled" green card holders who will do the same job for 15 an hour.  You're so right.

A 100k salary doesn’t equal 15 dollars an hour wage lmao

100k/52= Approximately 1923 dollars a week

1923/40 = Approximately 48 dollars an hour

I wonder what the demographics will be.
Sure Indians hate Trump but they also Love Modi and considering its Houston/Fort bend I could definitely see a lot of Indian expats coming to this rally.

Most Indians I know , hate Trump but if you talk about his policies , they mostly support them .
Many on here would find that weird but I think there are many many people like that IRL

Again, I never said 100K so not sure who you're responding to...   I'm talking about the "skilled workers" visas that American corporations import many people from overseas with.  They don't make anything above 15-20 dollars an hour, but they replace Americans who would make much more.  I've seen this with my own eyes for years now.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/h-1b-visa-workers-earn-six-figure-salaries-2018-4

The average according to this is $80600

Illegals are a far bigger probably than H1B visas because of the fact they can get away with paying them such low wages and the problem of H1B can be solved with the bipartisan Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants act

Most Asian Americans are young, college educated people who live in big metros. Not exactly the GOP’s bread and butter

Bernie has made it clear he would side with Pakistan over India and with the Bernie wing of the party embrace of Palestine it will surely hurt them with Jewish and Hindu voters . Of course if Biden is the nominee this won’t be the case but if the socialist wing does then yes it will hurt them .

Lol

"India has a true friend in the White House," Modi said.

The India leader also invoked Trump in his signature campaign slogan, "Ab ki baar, Modi sarkar," which translates to "This time, Modi government." On stage, Modi replaced his name with Trump's.

Trump defended Modi’s policy on Kashmir

Quote
Both India and US also understand that to keep our communities safe, we must protect our borders,” Trump said.

Has there been any discussion or big announcement of some bilateral action yet? I haven’t and won’t watch both of them at the same time, already hard enough to watch on serpent slither let alone two.

Also I feel so sorry for one of my heroes, Gandhi, having his name even uttered in there (singing like happy bday or something), it’s those who would have absolutely loved Modi and his Thackeray allies that had him killed.

Just stop the vast majority of Modi supporters love Gandhi as well
