If you always thought of it as a blue state, you were just wrong.  So, let's stop there.

It's disturbing how many of you teenagers and college kids equate liberal with "cool," LOL.  If you want to think that way, fine; I can't stop you, and I have no interest in doing so.  However, there are several rich, entertaining and scenic places that vote Republican every once in a while, and it's frankly hilarious that so many of you think of Democrats as strictly enlightened urbanites and Republicans as backwards rural folk.  Ignorance is bliss, though!

The Republicans that aren't backwards Condeferate Degenerates are low-IQ religious culture warriors that are single issue (Abortion) voters. And yes, that includes the ones that are outside the South. I have yet to meet one that didn't fall into one of those categories.

Well shucks, let me introduce some!

My father is the CFO of a private hospital, and his education includes an bachelor's degree in Accounting and an MBA in finance.  He is pro-choice.  He is a Republican.

My mother is a professor of education at a liberal arts college, and her education includes a bachelor's degree in English, a madter's degree in education and a PhD in education.  She is pro-choice.  She is a Republican.

I am a recent college graduate with a degree in finance.  I am pro-choice.  I am a Republican.

My sister is a sophomore in college at Butler University in Indianapolis, getting a double major in marketing and finance.  She is pro-choice.  She is a Republican.

Glad I could broaden your horizons!!

I guess that's why Republicans have historically done better in suburbs, usually win the college-educated vote (though they do lose the post-grad vote) and ROUTINELY win the richest income brackets comfortably?  LOL, your simplistic generalizations kind of explain why you're such a sh*tty poster, though.

Your party consistently wins the votes of the poorest Americans and the least educated (high school education or less), so I'm thinking you shouldn't throw stones...

Pfft! Please. Every study and survey shows that people with lower IQ's tend to vote Republican, as those that can't understand complex issues and have very simple thought processes are more attracted to right-wing ideology. Thus this is why the more educated you are, the more liberal you tend to be.

I can tell you simply want to confirm preconceived notions about your enlightenment, knowledge and importance, but it's obviously much more complicated than that.  Yes the "most educated" (post-graduate degree) Americans vote Democrat (though White post-graduate degree voters vote slightly Republican on average, so that right there shows that there are several lurking variables behind your vague and irresponsible assertion).  However, the least educated also vote Democrat, and Republicans win the majority of college graduates (and a hefty majority of White college graduates).

There are a few things that can explain that, and I'm not going to try to pretend to know the exact answer (as I'm sure you will, LOL): it could just be that SUPER duper smart people with PhDs are so enlightened that they've seen the light and become liberal Democrats.  It's certainly possible.  Another explanation I've heard, which I find quite plausible, is that it heavily depends on your field.  I think we can all agree that certain college majors lean more liberal (PoliSci, Education, other liberal arts, etc.) and others lean more conservative (finance, accounting, engineering, etc.) ... You practically need to go to grad school for the first three I mentioned (the liberal ones) and really don't at all for the next three (the conservative ones).  I'd very much challenge someone to come up with a critique of my assertion, because I would say that more liberal-minded majors need a post-graduate degree a HECK of a lot more than more conservative-minded majors.

The bottom line is you can find stats to make the other side look bad pretty easily.  For example, if I wanted to challenge your strange and misplaced superiority complex about being a Democrat, I could toss out these numbers from the 2014 exit polls:

High school dropouts: 54% Democrat, 44% Republican
College graduates: 54% Republican, 44% Democrat
White college graduates: 57% Republican, 41% Democrat

Under $30k: 59% Democrat, 39% Republican
$30k to $50k: 51% Democrat, 41% Republican
$50k to $100k: 55% Republican, 44% Democrat
$100k to $200k: 57% Republican, 41% Democrat
Above $200k: 57% Republican, 42% Democrat

I could use this trend to stroke my own ego and make generalizations about all Democrats, but I'm not a massive tool.  Here's a link in case you're distrustful of stats provided by an incompetent Republican:
