The problem with Kirk is more that he's a serial liar who changes positions at the drop of a hat in order to get elected.

As a musing point: I wonder how many ideologically reliable politicians are similarly unprincipled but lack competitive electorates?  I imagine Vitter would say anything and change any position, but he doesn't have to.
