From the National Enquirer, which endorsed Donald Trump two weeks ago (they've never endorsed a candidate before).

Trump is best fiends with the Enquirer CEO, Pecker.  I bet he offered to pay their legal bills if they are sued.

CONSPIRACY THEORY: DC elites gave this info to Trump back in January '15 in order to have him do the dirty work to prevent a Cruz nomination. Jokes on them, considering Trump's performance. Anywho, Trump probably has had the National Enquirer hold off on this until the right moment.

Hey, they got the Edwards thing right.

There's no way in hell that Trump has known about this for 16 months and this is the first time we are hearing about it.  He doesn't have enough self-control for that.

You obviously don't know much about Trump. The man is incredibly calculating and manipulative. Do you think he's picked up support for just screaming at traffic?

Trump's calculation and manipulation sure helped him preserve his Louisiana delegate lead

Roger Stone, a Trump advisor, is quoted in this article, so Trump had to know this article was being released.  That should call into question some of his recent decision.

"What's worse? People who actually believe the trash in tabloids, or the ones who know it's false &spread it anyway? #stupidity on all levels"

From Trump's spokeswoman (one of the alleged mistresses).

The Enquirer business model requires them to print scandals. If they're true, so much the better. But so long as they have enuf to ensure they don't lose a libel suit, they'll run with it. Not all of their smoke has a fire associated with it.

Does the rag assert that this is all fact (in which cause libel problems perhaps), or are just quoting others as making the claim (in which event, no libel, and also no definitive claim of bed play)?  This is a rather crucial distinction. I might note that the Enquirer story that Hillary was sick was in the latter category - not a definitive claim of truth ala the John Edwards scandal where the Enquirer outed him.

It's the later. It quotes anonymous sources alleging that political operatives are investigating rumors.  Then they interview Roger Stone, a Trump advisor, who says that there's been rumors circulating.  You can make out the text from the OP.

It's obviously a hit-piece circulated by Trump

The Washington Times "columnist" who verified the story was fired by the Times today.

Real or not, Cruz's response to this and his allegations that it's Trump's fault have given this story legitimacy and now the media is jumping on it. Cruz might implode this Easter weekend (where families are all getting together to talk and reflect on their faith) when he should have not given this the time of day. This might have been a big mistake.
Denying the story as anything other than tabloid trash put the story on the front page of the New York tabloids.

Blaming Trump has forwarded the frenzy to legit papers like the Washington Post. Pretty dumb news on Cruz's part -- even if he denies it -- for exactly the reason you stated. It's like he didn't learn from Rubio's mistakes.

I disagree. As long as the allegations are false, this is the best way to deal with it.  Link it to Trump immediately and unequivocally.

The media has been presenting this as part of the Trump vs. Cruz fight of the last week.  Unless there's more evidence, it looks like Cruz has successfully linked this to Trump's sleazy tactics.

HuffPo has a great summary of what we know so far.  They're calling it "a massive game of telephone".  Apparently media outlets have been investigating this for months and there's nothing there.  People are chasing shadows.

So disgusting the people Trump surrounds himself with.  Amanda Carpenter's twitter right now is pretty awful.  People are posting pictures of her kids saying they are not her husband's.  They are accusing her of being unfaithful and calling her awful things.  They're threatening her.

It's really awful to see, and Trump's campaign is responsible.
