Recongizing that McDonald's horribly is an unhealthy restaurant whose products contribute to obesity and to a lifestyle of consumption and consumerism,

Recongizing that Obesity and the culture of rampant consumerism is one are two of the biggest problems facing Atlasia and the Lincoln Region,

The General Court Hereby,

1. Prohibits McDonald's, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, from operating anywhere in Lincoln and from importing their products to Lincoln

2. Bans any offsite McDonald's facility or similar venue that seeks to produce McDonald's products in Lincoln for exportation to other regions.

3. No McDonald's operating in Lincoln shall be allowed to provide toys with the purchase of any meal, unless they are made entirely of wood and produced by a Lincoln handcraftsman with local wood

4. EXCEPTIONS: Any McDonald's, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, or any related offsite facility or similar venue, that sells or produces ONLY a selection of the items on this list may remain open:

- McMuffins
- McGriddles
- Biscuit Sandwiches
- Beverages
- Salads
-Any other meals which do not exceed a total of 1,000 1,750 calories

5.Decrees that any McDonald's, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, or any related offsite facility or similar venue, that acts in contravention to this law, will see all of its owners fined no more than $250,000. Each case will be judged individually.

6.All McDonald's closed due to non-compliance will be replaced by a government-operated Shake Shack franchise, offering a wide selection of shakes, burgers, hot dogs, and other staples of Americana, at legally-mandated low prices and using healthy recipes.

7. A new fund shall be established from all fines collected in the enforcement of this statute, to be directed to the promotion and preservation of traditional Irish cuisine and dance music in the region of Lincoln

8. This Act shall take effect six months after passage

This is the same bill that was vetoed by the Governor in August. The present composition of the LGC indicates this should enjoy veto proof support.

3.Decrees that any McDonalds, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, or any related offsite facility or similar venue, that acts in contravention to this law, will see all of its owners and managers imprisoned for anywhere from six months to three years fined no more than $250,000. Each case will be judged individually.

4.All McDonald's closed due to non-compliance will be replaced by a government-operated Shake Shack franchise, offering a wide selection of shakes, burgers, hot dogs, and other staples of Americana, at legally-mandated low prices and using healthy recipes.

I see no reason to include that preamble. I fail to see what it adds to the bill, frankly. At least don't use such aggressive and combative phrasing when a much more neutral statement of the facts could serve the same purpose.

The Preamble states why the legislature is taking action and indicates its strong disapproval loudly and clearly.

That being said I guess it can be less aggressive.

The pointless spam of the Gentleman from North Dakota and the Gentleman from Oregon will not sway me on this. Contrary to what one would believe from reading their spam, we have come to a reasoned compromise that will allow McDonalds to stay open as long as the worst abuses are stopped. This bill is worthy of passage and is a real first step to solving the obesity crisis.

Why of all the fast food restaurants (not to mention grocery stores selling equally-unhealthy frozen meals) does Wulfric only want to ban the one called "McDonald's." Is it perhaps due to his vicious personal hatred for Irishmen?

I hope this isn't what you intend to use as a legal defense if a law like this ever were to pass, because the fact alone that this bill singles out McDonald's by name renders it facially unconstitutional.

Comments in this thread should not be interpreted as legal defenses. Obviously I would be forced to have a lengthier response should this legislation pass and be challenged in Court.

The bill has no discriminatory provisions relating to the Irish, especially with BJ's amendment having been adopted. I will note that given a final vote motion is pending, I was under no obligation to recognize him for that purpose, and yet I did, and accepted the amendment. I have no desire to discriminate against the Irish or any other group.
