Biden decides not to run for a second term, and Harris wins the nomination, while choosing Schatz as her running mate. Before the convention, however, a huge, smoking gun comes out about Harris's tenure as AG, bad enough that Schatz is chosen as the nominee instead of her. While it causes Democratic poll numbers to initially plummet, Schatz manages to recover and narrowly win, thanks to DeSantis botching a hurricane response and facing negative coverage for it during the debates.
