Both Burr and Tillis are not well-known in North Carolina.

They're low-key politicians.

Jeff Johnson or Jackson, whatever his name is should run for Tillis' seat in 2020 or Burr's seat in 2022.

NC GOPers try to be low key as possible, in this red-leaning state.

People here think that Kamala Harris can't win NC if she is the D nominee....Harris could win GA, NC, FL....black voter turnout could increase....but she may be too liberal for those states.

Obama made those states competitive in 2008 and 2012, even Montana and Indiana because of his message...

Jackson can beat Tillis 51-47 and could be a Dem White Veep in 2024 or 2028 for a older candidate or a minority presidential candidate

Tillis will lose in November.

Cunningham 52%
Tillis 48%

D pickup

Democrats can pick up Burr's seat in 2022.

Sen. Burr should resign.

I used to think he was a normal, generic white Republican not in the mold of Jesse Helms.

It's possible that NC1/NC2 and GA1/GA2 all go Democratic.

A new Democratic coalition in the new South.

VA, NC, GA, FL, maybe even SC can go Democratic.

Even if Cunningham wins, he's vulnerable in 2026

Madison Cawthorn probably beats Cunningham in 2026 under a Harris midterm

VP Cooper could move the needle the way VP Pence helped Braun beat Donnelly in 2018

Lol, that pathetic braindead Nazi sympathizing loser is barely hanging on in his house race for a deep red seat, no way would he ever be win a statewide race.

Cawthorn is a rising star, he'll be around for a while. If not Senate in 2022, 2026, probably Governor in 2024

Why him? Why not recruit Jeff Jackson or Josh Stein? I'm sure that with them chances to defeat Tillis would be far, far higher

This.

Jeff Jackson would have won.

I am changing this race to Lean R, sadly.

Cunningham needs to address this right away

NC has duds as Washington representatives. Dole, Edwards, Virginia Foxx, Burr, Hagan, Tillis.

I was looking for counterpoints to this and your earlier point regarding NC electing terrible Senators and I have to admit, the crappiness goes back a long way. I presume most Democrats liked Hagan, but otherwise there isn't much to be impressed with: AFAIK most Republicans find Tillis kind of mediocre and Democrats dislike him, John Edwards was a scumbag, Elizabeth Dole was an awful campaigner, Burr practised insider trading, Faircloth barely served and then you are back to Jesse Helms (ugh) and Terry Sanford. A quick skim of Sanford's bio suggests he was kind of effective for the one term in which he served but he was clearly dissatisfied with the job.

Helms' politics was nasty, but he is a legendary figure in American politics.

Heath Shuler would be a good alternative choice if Cal drops out.

Why are we proposing mediocre white men that should have run instead of Cunningham? Jeff Jackson, Josh Stein, Heath Shuler, how do we know that they don't have mistresses? Quite frankly I don't trust them and neither should you.

North Carolina needs a real leader. Janet Cowell for Senate.

Think about it, she's already won statewide twice, she's only 52 and looks even younger. Besides, if it turns out she has a thing with another women too it'd be a net positive. Democrats and liberal independents will hail her for being a progressive queer icon while Republicans and conservative independents will be like "well, I don't support the homosexuals gettin' married but two lezzies makin' out is pretty hot, assumin' they ain't fat or lookin' like dudes."

This is what turns white men into super Republicans.

You still need a chunk of the white male vote. Democrats can't cede the white male vote.

Heath Shuler can win.

http://american-ledger.com/accountability/thom-tillis-ex-wife-cites-cruel-and-inhuman-treatment-in-divorce-documents/

Lmao. I had a dream last night that Tillis would have some relationship dirt that would be dug up, and lo and behold.

Quote
According to court filings obtained by American Ledger, North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis’ ex-wife alleged “cruel and inhuman treatment” by Tillis, raising questions about the reasons surrounding the couple’s eventual divorce. In Tennessee, where the couple was married, “cruel and inhuman treatment” legally includes domestic violence, adultery, emotional or verbal abuse, and sexual assault.

The divorce complaint, filed in August 1979 on Tillis’ birthday, stated that Tillis was “guilty of such cruel and inhuman treatment or conduct towards the plaintiff as renders further cohabitation unsafe and improper.” The divorce filing also noted that Tillis’ ex-wife felt “unsafe and improper” living with Tillis any further because of his actions, which may include any or all of the actions outlined in the law.

Welp...

May God rest Kay Hagan's soul, but her oppo research team really sucked.

Hagan shouldn't have won in 2008 in the first place. Brad Miller or Janet Cowell would have kept the seat, even in a 2014 GOP wave

Dole would have retired in 2014 anyway

This seat is Madison's if he wants it in 2026 anyway, so, it's sad that either one will remain a dud til 2026.

Nobody cares about 2026.  We need to stop Mitch McConnell from shutting down the entire government for the entirety of the Biden presidency.  That is the immediate priority.

True, but Cal is a goner.

AZ, CO, IA, ME, maybe GA-S, MS

Republicans pick up AL

The Democratic party's pick should have always been Jeff Jackson.

Foxx, Shuler, Jeff Jackson or Brad Miller. Even Deborah Ross would have made it competitive.

NC Democrats always runs duds for Senate.

Bowles, Elaine Marshall, now Cal Cunningham.

Bowles is a technocrat, not a politician. Should have never ran him in 2002 and 2004.

This is the time for Heath Shuler to enter the race and save Democrats from this nonsense.

Shuler is a pro-life Democrat, but it is the South.

He'd pull in more Black men than Cal

McIntyre or Shuler.

That's it.
