And how do you think that Tulsi Gabbard would do in a primary against Schatz in 2016?

I think she'd lose, considering there's no Inouye factor.

But she's hot.

She's hot for a politician, and not bad for a average woman, still, yum.

Anyway, I think she'd do okay. Barring any major cock-up on Schatz's end, she'd probably get 30-35%.

The thing is, though, Gabbard won't run for a Senate seat unless it's a sure bet. I don't think she has losing a Senate primary as one of her goals. She'll seem like Ed Case when he challenged Akaka in 2006.

Mazie Hirono is going to be 71 in 2018. If she steps aside after a second term as Senator, Tulsi should have a good job at becoming a US Senator before she's 48.

Sounds like someone who just lost a election.

The fact that Schatz handily won the precincts surrounding the one that's voting on Friday makes the result unlikely to tip the scales in favor of Hanabusa.

Is there an updated precinct map available?

I'm going by the solid map that cinyc posted.

I doubt she'll actually sue, and if she does, it won't get far.

It's just ridiculous.

She (along with Ed Case) has been an HP since the special election in 2010. Everyday it's more and more clear that Schatz is the superior politician.

To be fair, in the 2010 Special Election, she was the lesser evil.

Certainly, but they were both complicit in the temporary loss of that seat, which catapulted Djou to the top of Hawaii Republicans and gave them a credible candidate for years ahead.

With each election he loses, the less credible Djou becomes. (See Cam Cavasso).

Assuming Hanabusa loses her lawsuit, which is being heard on the Big Island right now, Hawaii News Now says that we should get first results around 7:15PM Hawaii Time on Friday (1:15AM Saturday Morning Eastern time).  That's because the computer cards from the 16 voting machines need to be driven to Hilo, about 45 minutes away.  We will also get a second printout later in the day that includes mail-in absentees physically returned to the precinct.

If for some reason Hanabusa wins big (and I don't think she will), and topples Schatz's lead, and wins (Don't think she'll do that either), there will be alot of bitter Schatz people.

Not surprisingly, the judge denied Hanabusa's request to delay the election in Puna.  Barring some Hail Mary emergency appeal, it will go on on Friday.

Good. There isn't any good reason for it to be halted.

Good, now I don't have to lose all respect for her.

Hopefully she does a good job chairing Hillary's 2016 Hawaii campaign. Smiley

And then does a good job serving as Secretary of Labor or some position in her Cabinet.

Why would a Democrat need to campaign in Hawaii

They don't, but she'll probably still have a campaign chair there.

Yup. I believe that Brian Schatz was a spokesman for the Obama 08 campaign in Hawaii.

As CD1 will now be the most (only?) interesting HI federal race, the Civil Beat has a good primer.

I'm pretty sure that Takai will win with at least 52%. Djou is annoying, and I can't stand him myself.
