Lepage's term ends 1/5/19 and Collin's term ends 1/3/21 so she could resign a few minutes before she were to be sworn in as Gov and pick her and end up picking her replacement.

What is the deal with Adam Cote I have read up on him and he looks like the strongest Dem candidate?

Cote seems like the strongest candidate from reading his profile, not really impressed with Mills.

Adam Cote is up with his second ad and it gently attacks Janet Mills. He and Mills seem to be the only candidates on air and have raised a decent amount of $$, so I will consider them the frontrunners.

The news identifies Sweet as a lobbyist which I'm sure is the least attractive profession in politics.

Cote and Mills are going after each other in their ads. Mills hitting Cote for being a former Republican and Cote attacking Mills for being endorsed by the NRA three times.

Cote seems the most electable hope he wins. Moody looks like he'd be pretty formidable as the nominee so I don't think Ds should go the bold progressive route against him.

Looks like EMILY's List is making a last minute ad buy against Cote in support of Mills. The group also was critical in helping Emily Cain win the primary both times by funding attack ads against her opponent Troy Jackson.

And here's the attack ad from EMILY's List, pretty lame basically hits Cote for being a Republican a decade ago.

I just hate how inconsistent they are. They claim to want to elect more pro-choice women but leave a lot of them high and dry, they spent nothing on Rachel Reddick but millions for Sara Jacobs. I don't even think they endorsed Kara Eastman.

Google Trends show a close race between Janet Mills and Adam Cote with Eves and Sweet a bit behind, it's an imperfect measurement but is usually pretty accurate.

Sweet beginning to pull away from Eves as Kennebec, Hancock, and the rest of the state start to come in.  She's in third or second in every county statewide excluding York, Sagadahoc, and Penobscot at the moment.  She's doing very well imo.

Does she really have a realistic shot at winning the runoff?

I don't think Sweet would beat Moody.

The whole point of RCV was because of how LePage got elected and it can't even be used in state races... I don't even think it'll matter in federal races I think everyone ends up with 50+% this year.

MT, ID, NM all states with similar populations to Maine and even larger land mass with lots of rural areas all count way faster than Maine. I hope the next Governor addresses this because there's no excuse for it.

Moody is poorbaiting:

Disgusting, how about Moody does stay out of the system by getting out of everyone's sights?
Lmao preach. Moody is literally an empty vessel that LePage and his in are pouring the worst elements of Maine conservatism into. The man hasn’t had an original thought since 1987.

What is it with Maine Republicans and welfare? They play up the welfare abuse card more than any other state Republican party even more so than the South.
