That's cherry picking. The average Shanghai resident has about the same wealth as the average Italian. Seoul is 1st world. Bangkok is developing. Culture is hard to quantify, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who'd rather live a traditional peasants life (because that's what most of these people were doing 50 years ago) over a homogenized global existence.

I'm tired of this whole privilege/right debate. Healthcare is objectively not a right. There aren't any inherent natural rights, and everything is relative. Similarly, what people deserve is subjective. Universal healthcare is, however, good policy and that is why both I and probably Ralph Northam support it.

There is nothing absurd nor ignorant about that post.

Ideological third parties will always fail in the US

I believe this country can and should do better than a seesawing two-party dichotomy from now until whenever.

I totally think that a new party could emerge, but not on those lines. You could have a highly regional party that only contests House, Senate, and state offices in one part of the country, for example, that tries to dominate that region and hope to play kingmaker in Washington. A la the Bloc Quebecois a decade or two ago. That's probably the most viable route to third party power in the United States: a regional separatist/particularist party can be very effective in First Past the Post because it's concentrated all in one area.

A national third party is a waste of time unless it swiftly displaces and kills either the Republicans or Democrats.

Something like UUP or the Moderate Party, perhaps?

The problem with those, though, is that they are in states that heavily favor one side over the other.

Probably by the time everything is set and loose ends are tied, it would be late enough that his resignation would leave the seat open until 2019 and his replacement would be decided on Election Day 2018. Either way, an open seat would give Bryce a strong shot at taking it.
