Spend far too long at the Treasury; I've always wondered how he would have done if Blair had moved him after 2001/2003 to give him exposure. Although I remember the talk that if he called an election in 07 he would have scrapped a majority (and probably almost killed the tories)

He was a decent PM, and I thank my stars that he was PM during the whole crisis rather than John Reid or David Miliband.
