Both Carter and Ford would be very unlikely candidates for their respective parties today, but it is safe to say that even if such a matchup were to occur, it wouldn't look like 1976. Not even Carter could win Mississippi today, and not even that matchup could have a Republican winning Marin county in California. So what would it look like?

here's my guess:

Carter can't win Georgia today and Ford can win Maine.

he would win Georgia due to the homestate advantage. Without it, Ford couldn't win Michigan.

Well Ford wouldn't win Michigan then. Also Ford isn't the type of Republican that plays well in Georgia, so I still think Carter would pull it off.
