You’re right but I cannot believe that is even up to discussion, the fact on whether Russia should be invaded or not. People openly going against what they preach when supporting Ukraine out of a negative feeling of revenge and hate. It’s astonishing to me how neoconservatism is the default ideology in the USA.

Democrats/Liberals sound like Republicans during the Bush era nowadays. In the 00s we had Bush coming here to my country trying to sell to us that joining them in Iraq War was a great business deal because we could profit from the reconstruction process after the destruction. Nowadays Russia is the one who started the war, but who comes asking for weapons / money / involvement in the war is again the US, now joined by the Europeans.

Some people are so blinded by their hate for Trump and being seen as popular in Europe that they ignore that relationship with Global South was more productive to US during Trump years. I don’t necessarily think Trump hard isolationist nationalism is more positive than an internationalist globalist approach but when that turns into continuous unilateral interventionism instead of multilateral cooperations for dialogue then give me the former any day. Otherwise you risk dividing the world between two blocs - ones way more complex and designed by economical structure than political structure as we’ve seen though the reactions of currency weaponization- and that isn’t good for anyone.

Europe, which had always been a balancing force of moderation in the 00s, have also full-on jumped on the hawkish pro-war bandwagon out of fear because now this stuff is happening in Europe instead of the Middle East. Each side appropriates neocon ideology if they see it as a political tool that gives advantage to their side.

You know whenever people whine about how aiding Ukraine is too expensive it's important to think about a point made about the UK's donation of Storm Shadow cruise missiles. This is actually saving the UK money.

Why? Bevause they were due to be phased out in a couple years anyway. And disposing of old stock safely is expensive. Donating them to Ukraine avoids this issue.

And that's also true of most of the equipment donated by the US. Only Russia hacks make this claim, it's not a good faith concern.

You know how in a Crusader Kings game you could have a load of really awesome knights with high prowess but then you launch an ill-planned out war and lose some battles and a lot of those really awesome knights get killed and you have to replace them with not so great knights and then those knights also get killed in a higher rate due to that in future battles?

Thats a joke. We give 100 billion in a single year.

1-Most of that was military equipment that was already produced and a sunk cost. We're not using it, so why not give it to someone who could? That actually saves money because it means we don't have to pay for maintenance anymore.
2-The cost was kind of inaccurately reported. It didn't take into account devaluation of the equipment.

An analogy: Say a rich person buys a new car for $50k. Then two years later they gift it to their kid. Did they just give their kid something worth $50k? No, because the car is worth significantly less now two years later and after the use of that time. It probably wouldn't be worth even $20k at that point. Same thing here.
