This is probably why McCarthy is opposed: https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/19/politics/republican-reaction-january-6-probe/index.html

~17% of Republicans voting for it means that it's still DOA in the Senate unless & until they go nuclear.
Can't the House just do their own investigation without Senate approval? The Republicans did that for Benghazi.

Not necessarily.  The House is much more partisan than the Senate, typically (although that's becoming less so lately).
Remember a majority of House Republicans voted to reject the electoral votes of two states while less than ten Senate Republicans did for each one.

Rubio came out in support of this bill, I appreciate his backing,I wish others like Daines, Ernst, and Scott and Portman would do the same.

That's why Rubio is not gonna lose Reelection even if Crist upsets DeSantis, like I will put on my user Prediction

It's time for the Rs to stop protecting the Right Militia Groups like the Proud boys
Uh any source here besides OC ramblings? Because if Rubio supports it it's probably getting 60 votes (with the 7 who voted to comvict it just needs two more and Rubio is definitely not in the three most likely of remaining R Senators.)

Why would I vote for a party that has made it almost impossible to for me to find decent housing within commuting distance of my job, that prevents my landlord from evicting a deadbeat tenant who has repeatedly harassed me, that has made my state's largest city into a place where you can't walk a few blocks without getting bothered by some lunatic, and that continues to fight for mask mandates even with a statewide vaccination rate of nearly 100% among the at-risk? No thank you. Vermont's Democrats are a freak show, and the Progressives are even worse.

I'm going to try not to derail this thread too much with off-topic things, but who did you vote for last year? I've had trouble following your political evolution or identifying a concrete ideology, if you have one.

In any case, it sounds like your issue is only with Vermont's Democrats. I can't see you sporting a blue avatar if you lived in North Carolina or Georgia.
He voted for Biden. He said he'd probably be an independent in any other state but Phil Scott isn't bad and he can't stand the Vermont Democrats so here we are.

The idea that was no serious violence toward Capitol Police on January 6 is beyond laughable:

Not to mention this. Not exactly a harmless injury:

(That guy has been caught and he was a retired NYPD officer, oh the irony, although also horrifying.)

Also trying to downplay Brian Sicknick's death because he wasn't beaten to death but rather that a healthy 42-year old had a stroke after being repeatedly sprayed with chemicals used to deter bears and dealing with a high stress physical strenous situation really doesn't absolve the situation much.

I will point out that in the US it is possible to charge people for deaths caused by their actions even if only indirectly. For example only one person was directly killed by the Olympic park bombing in Atlanta but a Turkish journalist died of a heart attack while rushing to the scene after it occurred, and Eric Rudolph was charged for his death as well.

Schumer is a complete disgrace and undeserving of any leadership position if he doesn't understand that Republicans have already been using this tactic for at least the last six years.
That statement is clearly ironic. That's his point.
