Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

I wish I saw Piranha 3D instead.

What? It was awesome!

The American.

Despite the title, this was a very European-style film. I am amazed this could open at #1. George Clooney isn't that big of a draw, it's very slow and doesn't even have much dialogue. It's a pretty good movie if you like that sort of thing, but do not expect anything resembling Bourne or the like. Also it's good that George Clooney is such a capable actor, it would've been a disaster with a weak lead.

The Town

Ben Affleck IS a good director. This is close to a must see. It's one of the most seamless mixtures of action, drama and romance I've seen in a long time. The only complaint is the ending was kind of anticlimatic (though considering what precedes it anything is going to feel that way.)  I'd be shocked if this doesn't get a Best Picture nomination with the 10 nominees now.

And here I thought you wouldn't like it because it is supposed to depict Irish Americans.   I havent been to the movies in a while but may have to check it out.

The most obviously Irish characters (like the ones with tattoos of Irish-related stuff or the old one who even has a bit of an accent) are all really terrible people. Much like The Departed, which I also liked. Of course I hated The Boondock Saints but that had nothing to do with the Irish thing and everything to do with it being a very very stupid and annoying movie.

Is It Fall Yet?

One of the Daria movies. I have now watched every episode on the DVD so I watched this which I had actually not seen before. A little let down because Daria plots are ideal for 22 minutes, not over an hour, so it just introduced a lot of subplots that weren't really resolved. Plus I was never a big fan of Tom. Better than some of the weaker episodes though and the psychotic history teacher at the camp was a hoot. I kind of wish the show had touched on Stacy more, she was an underrated character in the later episodes after some development (in the first seasons she was just another shallow fashion club airhead.)

Wall Street (in preparation for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps).

I don't think a snoozefest like that requires preparation.

Have you seen it? I know the reviews were mediocre but I wasn't sure what to expect.

The Social Network

Yep, as good as it was said. Sorkin and Fincher actually made the story fantastic. And while Zuckerberg came across as an asshole, I was rooting for him over the twins because they appeared to be bigger assholes. But the bit with his best friend...that was brutal.

It's not a total hit piece on him. Not wanting to spoil too much but he has at least two moments in the movie of deadpan comments that would qualify as Crowning Moments of Awesome under the TV Tropes category. A bit of a snarky jerk in them, but in a good way.

BTW Eraserhead, are you people at your theater actually saying the name of the movie or just buying tickets to "the Facebook movie" like the guy ahead of me in line said? I know if I worked at a theater simply having it be referred to as "the Facebook movie" would annoy me quite a bit.

I don't know if it was the movie of the year but it was very good. Great soundtrack. Cool ending.

What did you think of Justin Timberlake? I know you've complained about him before but I thought he did a great job here.

Yeah, he was good here. Apparently, his true talent lies in playing assholes.

Like Alpha Dog.

I think the dude who's going to play Spiderman kind of stole the show though.

Was that Eduardo? He was very solid, particularly in the "It wasn't" scene. I've read the movie is far more slanted in his favor than the reality though.

There's at least two scenes though when Eisenberg really owned though, the Harvard board review and when the other lawyer asked him if he thought he was deserving of his attention.

One thing that struck me when I saw it the second time: What exactly did Parker do for the company? Eduardo wasn't joking when he said suggesting to drop the "the" was his biggest contribution because that is pretty much all he did in regards to running Facebook.

Let Me In.

.....absolutely atrocious.

Looks just like a role reversal Twilight.  Why would you even bother to see it?

Uh, it's actually a remake of a far superior Swedish film which is based on a book that predates Twilight. The movie actually predates the Twilight movie too.

And based on the trailer it completely missed the point of the original since it made look like just another generic bloody slasher horror movie.

I actually thought what the female lawyer said to Mark at the end summed up his character perfectly.

The Baader-Meinhoff Complex.

This is basically the type of movie I've always wanted to see made. It has its strong points and was quite interesting. However it also felt kind of jumbled, partially due to the real life story no doubt but there was a lot of stuff that didn't flow well. Furthermore the ending was very abrupt and not really an ending at all, it was almost like they decided "There's no really no satisfying way to end this story so we'll just stop here." at a pretty random part. Recommended if you're interested in the RAF, but be aware.

Children of Men was far too entertaining, and had a lot more spots of hope in it (unlike The Road) to be anywhere near as depressing.

Just watched part of Religulous and I can totally see why so many people hate it.  It's completely true.

It wasn't a bad film but the ending was really preachy and hypocritical. Up until then though it was a very solid and interesting film. I remember a review stating that Maher seemed to "not being out to convert but inspire debate", that was true for about 90% of the film when it was very good, but the ending was such a turnoff and 180 from that.

I'd say it made up for it by being entertaining. Kind of like why I still watch Michael Moore movies even though I'm not a huge fan of preachy liberal movies (why watch movies just to preach what I already agree with?), because they are still quite entertaining.

Most modern-day American "horror" films I'd argue don't really qualify since they don't really try to even be scary and are basically just "Hey let's watch these people get killed in really gory ways!" They're just stupid.

YES! That movie would earn a Best Picture nomination if the Academy had one iota of common sense and decency.

I need to check out the graphic novels. I heard the whole "Vegan Police" bit is even funnier in them.

I wonder if Earl and Holmes have seen it yet. A real shame if they haven't, I know Earl would love it.
