Anyone who never eats vegetables because they think they never taste good either doesn't know how to cook them properly or is just too lazy to.

Detroit is a better place to live than most of California.

Detroit is a better place to live than most of California.

Assuming you mean the actual city as opposed to Metro Detroit, I'd be really interested to hear this explanation
Averroes put it better:
I don't think it's a California thing and don't like the California trashing (it's one of the best states)

median home selling at >$0.5 million
prone to devastating earthquakes
worst homelessness problem in the country
longest average commute of any state outside of the Northeast
extremely vulnerable to climate change
people having sex in the streets, in broad daylight

I'm glad California exists for its political influence but that doesn't mean the state isn't a Florida-level utterly nightmarish hellhole to actually live in.

Two weeks removed from Halloween so I think I can do this one:

"Classic" Halloween movies tend to be very overrated due to nostalgia. In particular The Nightmare Before Christmas is a textbook example of a movie whose premise and character design is way better than the mediocre movie itself. Hocus Pocus as well, a movie that in recent years has become a staple being played at every elder Millennial's Halloween party is without nostalgia probably about as entertaining for anyone over 12 as most Disney Channel original movies, although it has some redeeming elements like the impressively over the top performances all three actresses playing the witches gave (Bette Midler called it her favorite role) and the impressively high amount of sexual references they managed to sneak into a kids' movie.

Also this may not be a hot, bad or unpopular take but Family Guy's take on The Nightmare Before Christmas is not only amazingly dead on its probably in the top 10 gags the show has ever done:

Yes, although I guess it's debatable if you consider it "pizza" instead of a flatbread cooked with tomato sauce and vegetables on top of it. Made right it can be pretty good though.

Stand Atlantic is better than Paramore (and Bonnie is actually even hotter than Hayley Williams.)

How do I find the latter type in Minneapolis?

I literally personally know two, lol.  I’m sure there are neighborhoods that regularly go 20-30% GOP somewhere in the city, my friend.

(Not that I know for sure or am going to check.)
There's only five precincts in the city that gave Trump over 20%, one of which is near a conservative evangelical university. There is the one in the furthest southwest corner of the city that's practically Edina, but the neighborhood it's in is has a much lower Trump percentage due to the other precincts. And all the others are basically the same, they're spread out and in neighborhoods with more D precincts. So actually, no there isn't.

Do liberal cities lack business districts? Huh
Minneapolis doesn't have an area known as such. It has a lot of businesses headquartered downtown but no one except homeless people really live in that area.

While Sunny Day Real Estate's Diary is a fantastic album and its influence and importance can't possibly be overstated, it has a serious flaw in it in that the first two tracks on it are by far the best, thus making it difficult to listen to the whole album without the rest feeling like a letdown. And thus my controversial opinion: How It Feels To Be Something On is the best SDRE album.

Unless you independently have an almost unlimited source of money to draw from, Hawaii would be an absolutely terrible, utterly awful state to live in and anyone who desires to move there clearly hasn't looked up anything about the state aside from the weather. There's a reason Hawaii Governors are almost always laughably unpopular.

In terms of looks Margot Robbie is pretty overrated. Is she a pretty attractive woman? Obviously. Is she the HOTTEST WOMAN EVER CAUSES FEELINGS JUST LOOKING AT HER like many guys and quite a few lesbians rave about? Not exactly.

She is a very talented and utterly fantastic actress of course.

People don't automatically move politically to the right as they get older. If anything, I've moved to the left as I've gotten older, as I've come to be very skeptical of calls for "compromise" and "meeting in the middle", especially since they too often come from people whose twisted notion of "compromise" is the other side bending to their will. I've become more critical of the Democratic Party, and come to see things such a universal healthcare as a moral obligation.
It's all relative. 10-15 years ago I was considered about as far left socially and culturally as people were, but today some people think I'm a reactionary right-winger because I don't state my pronouns or believe anyone should try to "overcome" a "genital preference". And even centrists support gay marriage and marijuana legalization now so that's not a big deal.

At this point, people peddling hysteria about COVID to prove how *scientific* and *data-driven* they are have become more annoying than people who didn't take it seriously...

... on this same note, if a vaccine is approved and actually easily attainable in, say, January 2021, EVERYTHING should return to normal within a week or two.  Everything.  At that point, it's your responsibility to shelter in place until you can get an appointment to get a vaccine if you are worried about contracting COVID.  While I know full well that there will be lunatics screaming that nothing can return to normal until 70%+ of the population is vaccinated, it will be the responsibility of normal people to ignore them.

Approving a vaccine is just step one. Barely anyone will be able to get it at first since producing and deploying it will take far longer than a week. The first people to get it will likely be healthcare workers and then people in high risk categories. At that point you could argue that things can return to normal, getting all that done in January if that's the same month a vaccine is approved just isn't feasible.

it's not tasteless to speculate on how a recent event will impact the polls/elections and it's never "too soon", that's exactly what psephology is all about. Imagine if when the Covid outbreak started and someone asked how it would impact the election and got shouted down with "HOW CAN YOU ASK THAT NOW, PEOPLE ARE DYING?!"

(It obviously is if someone implies that a tragic event is good because it would likely help their side but that's usually not what happens when people get shouted down.)

I think I would have voted No to most Irish constitutional referenda on principle purely because I believe certain matters should be outside of the scope of a constitution.
Oh man just wait until you learn about Florida's combination oil drilling/vaping ban, enshrined in the Constitution forever.

...wow. I am starting to think Florida might need a new, lighter, state constitution.
You're not wrong, but it's not even the state most in need of this.

-Ashes were just as important in the development as Moss Icon.
-Screamo started in New Jersey, not San Diego.
-Weezer is not even remotely emo, not even "emo-adjacent." For that matter neither is Death Cab For Cutie.
-Jimmy Eat World hasn't been an emo band for about two decades.
-Paramore's first album does have significant real emo influence.
-There was basically no good metalcore music at all until about 1996ish.
-Thrice is just not that good. And it's frustrating because Dustin Kensrue is clearly such a talented musician and songwriter...but I just can't get into them. Even when I saw them with mewithoutYou.
-Speaking of mewithoutYou, Catch For Us The Foxes is their best album.

We should tax billionaires to insane levels (75%+) so we can reduce taxes for >99% of the population.
This is the sort of thing people talk about whenever they mention how high tax rates were in the 50s and whatnot. What they're missing is that virtually no one was actually paying those 50s tax rates because the tax code was still riddled with loopholes and exemptions. I don't disagree with this fundamentally (FYI it's definitely not unpopular), but closing all the tax loopholes that exist should be a higher priority, because higher tax rates won't mean much if that doesn't happen first.
