Abolish the role. It made sense to have an LG back in the day when the governor would leave the state for weeks at a time for travel, but now they're a waste of space.

But then what happens if the Governor resigns/dies? Giving the spot to another state official can have some unexpected repercussions, see Arizona 2009.
