dead0man, displaying a picture of Muhammad is as offensive for the Muslims as taking a dumb on the cross would be offensive for the Christians.

And as a Christian I don't think anyone should be modded or banned for either.

Actually I wouldn't find the latter offensive at all. All it proves is the person doing it is an immature idiot. It's like getting offended over the stupid trolls who get banned so quickly.

I don't, though some people may offended by SP (and pretty much any other TV Show) and that's their right. I'm not advocating censoring anything and you've once again missed the point by a mile.

Offending others is not really something I tend to concern myself with.

Perfect case in point: I have a band shirt with a lyric written on the back "This is your last dance f[inks] standing still". I can't wear it to work because I did once and got asked to never again, so I wore it while I was doing laundry and all my other shirts were in the wash. Once laundry was done I kind of figured since it was already on I'd keep it on. I went to church in the afternoon yesterday, so yep, that's the shirt I wore.

Now to many Christians (though not the ones at my church of course) that would be considered deeply offensive and they'd be downright horrified. Like can you imagine someone wearing that at a Catholic church? I've also gone to church somewhat high and buzzed before (probably around 0.5 BAC) Offensive to many? No doubt. Does that mean I should care or stop? No. And I'm not going to ask dead0man to do the same. If I ever talk to anyone in a band I see at shows who have anti-Christian lyrics have I ever asked them to stop it? No. I'll keep listening to them despite disagreeing with them and am not offended. There's plenty of offensive things in the world, by standards that's pretty low. Which would Jesus be more bothered by, the millions of people starving who the Republicans keep trying to make things worse for, or some guy screaming "F[INKS] YOUR CHRIST!" during a breakdown part of the song? It's obvious.

There's things worth caring about. Non-Christians being blasphemous for shock value, profanity and disrespecting Muhammed rank pretty low on those list of things to me.

For a self-proclaimed "tolerant" and liberal" person, you're surprisingly unaware of anything but your own narrow percepton, Red. 

If I was constantly concerned about if something might offend someone else, how could I be such a huge fan of Family Guy?

And Family Guy is unquestionably a very tolerant and liberal show despite how offensive it often is and how unconcerned about that fact the writers are as well. It's not necessarily hypocrisy.

Does "an extraordinary historical figure" equal automatic FF? We could say the same term for Christopher Columbus or Genghis Khan after all.

Then you hold that Jesus and YHWH are not the same God?  Or do you hold those massacres to be mythical rather than historical?

Kind of in between the two. Basically here might've, probably most likely was some massacres of the sort by early nomadic Jewish tribes, though not necessarily as we they are written now. And they might've attributed God's blessing as the reason they did it, as many early peoples' did. That does not mean that actually was the case.

I agree with your sentiments. I am also 100% in favour of being able to take a negative stance on a religious figure and not cow to those who consider it to be blasphemous. Blasphemy is a great expression of personal freedom. What annoys me is that there are certain figures who are 'fairer game' than others given the make-up of this board. Some figures must be 'respected' or 'seen in context' at all times. Others such as Mohammed are fair game. At least, it is to be said, someone has actually brought him up after all this time.

Now I think everyone is fair game of course but there has been no attempt at any genuine and forthright appraisal of Mohammed either in the positive or negative. Instead we have a poll that is shepherding people towards a particular answer. That's why people find this uncomfortable.

I've never argued for that. In fact I've been attacked repeatedly for not doing so and basically judging everyone in all countries and all times by my modern day personal standards.
