I think opebo (and his subjects) would be best served as the absolute monarch of some small but relatively well-off city state somewhere.

I'm just pointing out here that Greece and the entire Eurozone would've been far better off if opebo was running Greece the last couple years.

You know, BRTD, Greece already experienced such a thing...

They were right wing fascists, not progressive liberals.

The only opebo posts I don't read are the pointless and unfunny bitch fests with Gustaf.

If opebo is so right wing and fascist why does he hate the US and nationalism so much? And why does officepark hate him as well?

Hitler was an extreme nationalist and opposed the US because it opposed his nationalist goals. opebo is an American, so it's not quite the same.

What views of opebo's are right wing? He doesn't support free market economics and isn't socially conservative.

What views of opebo's are right wing? He doesn't support free market economics and isn't socially conservative.

Eh...he supports monarchy and totalitarian dictatorship? He supports inherited priveleges? He has stated that his favourite society model is the monarchies in Europe in the late nineteenth century.

You can't seriously be this dense. The reason he doesn't like the free market is because it allows upstarts to make money instead of leaving the upper class preserved. Thus, it creates social mobility which is what he dislikes. The socialist rhetoric he sometimes employs is just a joke on people like you.

And his archaic sexism isn't exactly socially liberal...you seem to think that a Turkish sultan with a harem is socially progressive because he doesn't live in monogamy, but that is a rather flawed analysis, to say the least.

(Hitler was arguably racist rather than nationalist. And I don't see where Opebo hates nationalism. He certainly hates certain nations and loves others, which is what extreme nationalism is about. That's not tolerant, is it? Regardless, it doesn't change the point that your statement does not read like something a sane person would think up. Officepark dislikes him so he must be leftwinged? Do you see how deranged of a statement that is?)

Uh, opebo constantly belittles the US's poor social safety net and talks about how we need a "generous dole" for poors and to raise the minimum wage. He also strongly supports single-payer universal healthcare and not allowing private insurance. His views on economics are the exact opposite of the Tea Party.

Let's take a look at a leading socially conservative activist group in America: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_Values_Coalition

Their positions:

Now let's see how opebo agrees with these:

1. Clearly not the same
2. LOL no
3. LOL no
4. LOL no
5. Nope, not at all, lol (BTW anyone find the last bit legitimately scary?)
6. Nope
7. LMAO
8. Nope, clearly not opebo

0/8. Yeah opebo is quite the social conservative. In fact I agree with 0.75 of those, making me more socially conservative (Half of the first one [euthanasia] and a quarter of the last one [smoking].)

I think the sweetest irony of this entire obsession is that BRTD claims to be a Christian and Opebo wants Christians to be put to death. And BRTD is a fervent supporter of him.

If you take some hyperbolic and satirical statements made by him literally I suppose. But even if you do:

It's like a textbook case of a useful idiot. It's really that whole aspect of Opebo (or rather his little cult) that I find interesting. The psychology of people who want to be fooled into following a leader (be it a political dictator, cult leader, rock star, etc) fascinates me, largely because it is a mindset so far removed from my own.

You act like opebo has any level of influence whatsoever in the world and that he's actually an important figure, not just a guy hanging out with hookers in Thailand.

So are Gustaf and Kalwejt going to argue that Eliot Spitzer isn't a progressive or socially liberal?

What I don't get is why Gustaf, a right-winger, is so intent on arguing that opebo, someone he hates, is not of the opposing ideology but his own.

A little question to BRTD I'd like to have an answer:

How are you going to comment on opebo's admiration of Gaddafi and his regime?

I disagree with it.

What I don't understand is why a fellow Gaddafi supporter as yourself is attacking him over it.

And for the record the reason I brought up Eliot Spitzer is because Gustaf seems to think anyone who hires hookers is a social conservative in some sense. Even though I'm pretty confident that frequent clients of prostitutes are far more supportive of gay marriage (like Spitzer and opebo) than the country at large.

I just reported a post for the first time in a very long time. All the more amusing it was from a mod.

Actually opebo's arguments with Gustaf are basically his only posts I DON'T read. Most of those arguments go nowhere. Tweed's can be more amusing though, especially since Tweed basically writes all his posts now in a style similar to mid-90s emo record liner notes or 75% of LiveJournal entries circa turn of the century.

A lot of Gustaf's attacks on opebo really just don't make sense.

For example he once called opebo a fascist. But I also remember him saying he has a friend with some fascist tendencies but is also an atheist so that's something that could rule him out from being a fascist. Now I'm sure anyone can see the quite blatant contradiction here.
