Moderates didn't ruin Virginia and nearly ruin New Jersey. Progressives did. Progressives don't deserve any concessions and should be begging for Mercy.

Biden is the first President in the last 30 years whose party won New Jersey gov in his first term.

This is quite possibly the lamest spin in history. Random historical stats don't cover the fact that Tuesday's results were dramatically worse than expected. Murphy was supposed to win by double digits and democrats were supposed to scrape by in Virginia. Instead the GOP swept all offices in VA, took control of the HoD, and Murphy nearly lost. Why? Because progressives prevented BIF from becoming law before voters went to polls.

I thought there were a few polls that had him winning by single digits. Christie wasn't supposed to win it either, yet still did. The results weren't unexpected from a historical trends perspective.

BIF is fully passed, so I'm glad we no longer have to hear about how Dems are holding it hostage. Now the onus is on the moderates to keep their word and pass BBB as it stands. There is no reason not to.

13 Stupid and TRAITOROUS RINOS bailed out Biden and Pelosi by voting to pass this “infrastructure bill.”
I have never felt so betrayed, this is the worst day of my life.

This isn't the Reconcilation Bill you know ?

This was the Hard Infrastructure Bill that most Republicans in the Senate supported.

Less than half.

I don't really have much doubt that Manchin and Sinema will vote for it. Maybe in the exact form it is now they are a no, but it sounds like it's pretty close to what they are OK with.

I think they should just do the debt ceiling in the vote-a-rama. Funding the government is another problem too and will need its own bill.

It just becomes law if he doesn't sign it after 12 days. (after transmitted)

I mean, I'll happily eat crow if BBB passes in the end (love being wrong in that way!). But I have yet to hear any remotely convincing case for why Manchinema and/or Gottheimurphy won't just sink the whole thing now.

I haven't heard a convincing case that they will. :shrugs:

Biden signs infrastructure bill into law at rare bipartisan gathering

Quote
President Joe Biden on Monday signed into law a $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package and marked the major legislative victory at a White House event with lawmakers from both parties.

The legislation will deliver $550 billion of new federal investments in America's infrastructure over five years, including money for roads, bridges, mass transit, rail, airports, ports and waterways. The package includes a $65 billion investment in improving the nation's broadband infrastructure and invests tens of billions of dollars in improving the electric grid and water systems. Another $7.5 billion would go to building a nationwide network of plug-in electric vehicle chargers, according to the bill text.

The bill, first passed by the Senate in a 69 to 30 vote in August, was ultimately passed by the House, including 13 Republican lawmakers, on November 5.

Congress returned to Washington Monday after a weeklong recess to a bevy of critical issues before the holidays, including passing Biden's broader economic and climate agenda, funding the government before a December 3 deadline, and raising the debt limit.

So wasn’t the House supposed to vote on BBB today?

 Nancy Pelosi

The plan is later this week, but it could slide until next week.

So based on what Manchin said today, basically we could get this passed before Thanksgiving if the House moderates don't decide to continue foot-dragging once the CBO report comes out.

I don't think there's much chance the House bill is passed by the Senate as is. Something always comes out of the vote-a-rama. Maybe early December.

How about not?

She’s been a Sinema style pain in the ass, she was instrumental in cutting the rx negotiations down, tried her damnedest to kill the whole thing the crib, and generally has been a trainwreck.

Whether she votes for the package to save face at the end is irrelevant, she’s a toxic influence in the caucus and should be removed if possible.

The post had a tweet that didn't talk about any of that and suggested primarying her.

Democrats are going to lose 60 or 70 seats next year aren't they?
I don't know if this is worth it anymore...
We're passing great policy sure, but at what cost
And it will all get repealed on 1/21/2025 anyways
If Dems turn back maybe the house isn't lost...

tf? You think Manchin's committee chairmanship should be stripped because he's dragged his feet on this. Now you want to kill it.

Shall we start placing bets on how long he talks?

I predict he'll stop at 1:15 AM (Eastern).

Placing a bet for 3:30 AM Eastern Time. He wants Atlas to be at risk of crashing while the vote is happening so the "liberal elites" we have here cannot celebrate live.

Why do you keep saying Talk Elections could crash?

The reason people are celebrating (or at least why it's worth celebrating) is because the House had to pass this before the Senate can take it up in Reconciliation. And for a long time it wasn't a sure thing that this step would even happen.

It can be stripped out in the vote-a-rama if it's a problem.

He came right out and said that he would vote against Tanden, vote against the vax mandate, etc. And with little equivocation. Maybe something will happen and he'll change his mind, but right now I really don't think he's planning on sinking it.

I had a dream a Dem Senator died (don't know where), and then Machin decided to leave the party (would not say whom he'd caucus with).

Good thing that was a dream lol.

If BIF wasn't passed I think Manchin would still want CTC cut but who knows. As far as VR goes, some kind of clarification of the electoral count act, that the VP can't throw out a state's votes, may be the best they can get short of nuking the filibuster.
