David Petraeus resigns as CIA Director over extramarital affair

The FBI apparently discovered it while looking for a security breach.

I can understand why Petraeus resigned.  While no longer under military jurisdiction, he lived with code of honor for several decades.

So long as there wasn't a security issue, I do wish he had stayed.

If he's on the list (and I've never heard that), he would be very far down.  I thought it would be limited to people at DoD.

From what I can tell, this article is inaccurate.  National Command Authority requires the POTUS and someone at DoD, usually the Secretary of Defense.  DoD has its own succession, which does not include the CIA Director.  He's not part of of DoD.

The guy at the bottom of the list is the General Counsel of the Air Force.
