Any time I've bought something that wasn't as great as advertised, it could be seen as falling for a scam, I suppose.

One time I was contacted by "Publishers" to follow up on a contest entry, which initially seemed legitimate (or as legitimate as it could be), since I'd filled something out for Publisher's Clearing House a week earlier. We only got as far as them asking for my credit card, though. I would say filling out anything for Publisher's Clearing House counts as falling for a scam. That was a more-desperate time as far as money goes.

I bought $1,000 worth of Cutco knives. Honestly, though, they are amazing knives. If you cook a lot, good knives are worth the investment.

When I was a kid, I was tired of being scrawny, so I ordered the Charles Atlas ridiculousness from the back of a comic book. Needless to say, I continued to look like a concentration camp survivor until I got a personal trainer as an adult.

Actually bothering to get a BA in political science.

It all depends on what you do with it. I have BAs in Political Science and History and do alright. The concepts and applications I learned have served me whereas the actual subject matter probably hasn't.
