I don’t think so, there were already plenty of SD Republicans whose prospects looked more promising, certainly for the near future. Ravnsborg actually underperformed for a Republican running statewide here in 2018. He defeated his Democratic opponent for AG by 10%, 55-45. While the Governor’s race was much closer, Noem and Ravnsborg were still the only South Dakota GOP candidates running statewide to not receive at least 60% of the vote.

None of the three members of South Dakota’s congressional delegation show any signs of going away anytime soon, and Kristi Noem would be the most obvious candidate to fill a Senate vacancy. Plus there is still Marty Jackley, there’s also Lieutenant Governor Rhoden. The current mayor of Sioux Falls might have some ambition himself. Lots of people who would have stood in Ravnsborg’s way in any case.
