There's one thing to be a moderate or conservative minded Democrat, and another thing to just not want to be a Democrat. I hope Pryor doesn't go so far as Blanche and look like he just doesn't want to be a Democrat.

I can take his stances on gay marriage and background checks. While they're important, they aren't exactly pressing issues in the long run.
