I noticed the same thing for the 2003 2007 2011 2015 MS Gov races.
In all four races, the Dem total vote was less than the total Dem primary vote by large margins. In 2007 the Dem candidate got less votes in the general election than he got in the Dem primary.
I guess is a tradition in MS of many people historically identify with Dem including voting in the Dem primary but acting like GOP voters in the general election.
